It was phrased more that if they needed to house Victorians in HQ and that if not sufficient capacity was available to service the demand for people who could not quarantine at home (including those positive cases who are encouraged to enter HQ) that they may need limit international arrivals.

Note that in the last lockdown many were accommodated in HQ and that international arrivals were not paused.

So the most likely outcome is that international arrivals will be maintained at the current level.



They want to remove any barriers to people getting tested. The key message was more that they want everyone who is symptomatic to come forward and get tested. And that if they need to not quarantine at home they can be accommodated. It was also why they emphasised that those without access to sick leave will receive a $1500 payment if they have to quarantine for 14 days.

Well of course they don't. I'm surprised you even have to ask. It serves them right, they should have come home earlier, and why were they overseas anyway. Australia is for resident Australians only. I don't care if they had a job and a life overseas, it's unAustralian and it serves them right. Oh I and I also don't care if their family circumstances here or there changed, don;t care if they lost their job or their visa expired, don't care who has died, who is dying, who gave birth, who got married, who has major health challenges, who is celebrating a major achievement or special birthday or any of that. And I especially don't care if they are double vaccinated and so pose little to no risk. No they chose to leave Perfect Australia, so let the rot wherever they are.

It makes me sick. It is obvious that the value of an Australian passport is fast approaching zero. Remember in the good old days when the value of a passport was ranked according to the number of countries that it allowed you to have visa free travel into? Well now I think the ranking should be whether the passport allows visa free entry (or even any kind of entry) to your own country. We would do even worse on this ranking that we are doing on the vaccination rankings. Totally shameful at every level.

• Victoria is for resident Victorians only
• West Australia is for resident West Australians only

South Aussies are locked out if they've been to NSW, maybe soon Victoria and warnings issued for Qld. So many S Aussies stuck in Broken Hill. Awful times.

Have we locked out Broken Hill as well, as of late July the LGA of Broken Hill was the only NSW location that had not been locked out (maybe the SA Govt website has not been updated). From the website "From 12:01 am 29 July 2021, travellers arriving from New South Wales (excluding the LGA of Broken Hill) is currently prohibited from entering South Australia, except for Essential Travellers and some permitted arrivals."

You are right. I'm not sure where people are stuck then but it was mentioned today. Maybe they need a permit and they aren't being processed promptly?

Please....stop saying that because people were not vaccinated, they "chose" not to be as if by choice. You do not know their particular circumstances or comorbidities.

Please stop making excuses, for most that are not vaccinated it is a choice.

The proportion of people with coborbidities that mean they cant get vaccinated is small and doesnt even come close to accounting for the portion of the long term eligible who arent yet vaccinated.

The truth is the majority that are not yet vaccinated in the older cohort have chosen not to (either wilfully or by virtue of being tardy/lazy).

Over 70s have been eligible for vaccination since late March that is over 4 months to get a first dose and ample time to have had 2 even with a 12 week interval between jabs. Over 50s have been eligible since beginning of May, so all have had ample time for one (if not 2 if you were an over 50 opting for Pfizer) by now.

One could also suggest that you stop posting your opinion on who should get vaccinated and by when.

Can we, as a population, work out whose lives are more worthy of saving? We all know that some will have to die.

Its not just my opinion, its the official plan. All levels of government are repeatedly calling for the older cohort to hurry up and get vaccinated, its our way out of endless damaging lockdowns.

Every single presser since the start of this current outbreak Dr Chant has been pleading for the oldies to hurry up and get vaccinated. Even Dr Young is urging the over 60s to pull their finger out.

Frankly if people choose not, that is not a good enough reason to keep those who did get vaccinated hostages in their homes.

Vaccine privilige is needed now, to save many from crippling mental heath and economic damage. Lockdown the vulnerable and unvaccinated, not the protected.

I feel like Australia is 8 people on long bus journey, without toilets, and everyone is holding it in until the next toilet stop. The end of the drive being the vaccination target. In the meantime, people are in a lot of pain with full bladders and from time to time some of those people pee their pants. Of course NT and Tas have an excellent bladder it seems.

But the odds are the overwhelming majority who will die from Covid will be the unvaccinated, so we do have a good idea where most of those deaths will be.
