Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

We have enough difficulty enforcing mask wearing now with active outbreaks and low vaccination. This isn't sustainable long term and people will just give up once vaccinations rise.

More importantly, people will stop investing in Australia whilst this chaos continues and seek to migrate. No government can afford that.
Well I know comparison to overseas jurisdictions is problematic, but there are some countries with high vaccination rates and mask wearing and social distancing. - not sure whether they have an on/off system. A poster on one of these threads was saying Italy used a 0.3 hospitalisation/ICU factor (not sure the actual calculation) for an on/off system - in comparison Sydney is 0.9 at the moment.

One death, late 70s, unvaccinated.

Yawn, more talk of ongoing restrictions at 80%.

My goodness will they shut their mouths about this! Why on earth do you think people (especially younger people) are racing to get vaccinated? To get out of this mess we live in.

The carrot is the 70/80% for goodness sakes why poison that. People will just not even bother.

First few paragraphs...

The couple who hosted an illegal engagement party say they want forgiveness but the fallout from the potential superspreader event is just beginning.

Sixty-nine people attended the party in the St Kilda area last Wednesday but footage of the event only surfaced over the weekend.

Videos, seen by news.com.au, show the groom-to-be telling jokes as those in attendance cheer him on.

“Clearly this is legal because it’s a group-therapy session,” he says.

Six people have so far tested positive from attending the party. One was infectious at the party and five attendees have since been infected.

Two doctors closely linked to the family were in attendance. One is seen laughing along in the videos. The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency is launching an investigation following dozens of reports on Monday.

Precisely.

There is a warped train of thought in public health departments if they believe young people are going out in droves to get vaccinated just to protect themselves from COVID-19. I am 30 and can assure everyone I didn't do it for me.

Too many people including here want a black or white answer whereas what we have is a spectrum. Before our latest lockdown, yes there were some restrictions but none really bothered me and I’d far rather that than what we currently have.
The easing of restrictions should never be a case of all or none - eg keep masks for a bit on buses and where it’s crowded, social distancing and restrictions on numbers but all we hear is black or white.

It’s because they are run by ancient old dinosaurs.

Undoubtedly NSW Health will eventually hear this....schools in Sydney is probably done for 2021 - maybe get Year 12 vaccinated across all Sydney LGAs and let them do their exams.

Victorian officials have also been holding an update on their state's Covid-19 situation, after recording 24 new cases.

Chief health officer Brett Sutton has expressed concern over the greater risk – posed by the Delta variant – of the virus spreading between children.

“Fifty of our current cases are under the age of 10. We have seen child to child transmission throughout this outbreak, in schools, in other circumstances. It happens very quickly in households between children,” Professor Sutton said.

“We are investigating a potential transmission in a playground. It is not definitive and maybe we will not be able to make it definitive but it looks like there has been transmission in a playground.

“We have also seen transmission between students who were not in classes together who did not have any other face to face interaction other than sharing a walk home, didn’t play together, don’t live together, didn’t have classes together.”

Broken Hill case. Seems like the South Australia CHO is making all the right decisions despite all the ridicule she gets!
Prof Spurrier will always get many things right because she acts extremely cautiously so it gets captured. Trouble is a lot of other things get captured that shouldnt with such an approach. Plus she comes out with some extraordinary statements. Obviously ‘don’t touch that ball’ and then followed up with ‘hot sweaty bodies’. Yesterday she suggested we should start to like wearing masks because there were some very attractive ones to wear. Face palm.

Delta is a game changer.....the SA CHO will get more right if the Infinity variant ever pokes its head out.

Exactly. A broken clock is right twice a day as well. Who cares, she’s the butt of all jokes this one. I can reduce the chance of me crashing my car by never allowing it out of the garage so cool bananas I can do the SA CHO job too 😂🤮

Given NZ wants zero, they should be going swift and severe and then find out if its Delta.
I believe its already their stated policy that the entire country goes into stage 4 for a single case of delta. At least a kiwi colleague told me that.

Yes,

but my point was they should go severe while trying to find out if its Delta - the chances of it being Delta have to be more than 60%.....

Not sure I really buy that age has much to do with it. I am sure some would have children in their teenage years and in to the 20s and 30s. But maybe in their dogged determination of zero COVID, they have really lost sight of the objective of the mission they set out to achieve in March 2020.
