Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

I'm not ... Gladys is correct for NSW, Mark is correct for WA given their respective current covid situations.

This is in relation to when reaching 80%, do we still go for zero covid.

We can't do both. If WA wants zero covid, it's staying closed to NSW and the rest of the world. NSW will be holidaying in Europe & USA even if they're locked out of other states.

At some point you have to open the door, and covid's going to come in like air in a vacuum.

I think some are getting a little carried away here.

Nothing was said that will give those in Central Coast & Shellharbour more freedoms. Keep in mind, restrictions in Bondi are exactly the same as regional NSW. Only the LGAs of concern have more restrictions.

This is an extra restriction to stop people travelling within the area they classify Greater Sydney. It is not the removal of any restrictions.

I think this is putting a ringfence around metropolitan Sydney to stop the spread, but there's no reason to believe those areas will be spared continued lockdown even if the statewide lockdown is lifted.
The arguments about why (in particular) Shellharbour had to be included in Greater Sydney have been continuous, and the tenuous argument was that too many people travelled from SW Sydney to work there. If, and I say if, there are some LGAs that might enjoy some lessening restrictions, the people from the Illawarra want to be part of that.

One thing I do wonder about is the effectiveness of mask wearing in this Delta environment.

Are we (Sydney and Melbourne - I don't think there is workplace transmission in Canberra during lockdown) getting workplace transmission because people aren't wearing masks correctly?

Or is there some secret exclusion for certain workplaces?

The jury is out on the effectiveness of masks. They certainly can't hurt, and remind people to socially distance.

But they are absolutely not a guaranteed prevention strategy.

I'm not saying they don't work, we just don't know how well they work, and it's definitely not 100%.

The WA premier is buying time to try and fix the absolutely embarrassing state of his public hospital system.

Unfortunately real people's lives are going to be ruined in the process of this immense failure of a past 18 months.

Private health providers are offering staff literally thousands of dollars in bonuses if the "refer a friend" and successfully employed as a nurse for more than 6 months.

This is all the doing of the government border policy.

There have been some pretty decent studies showing they are highly effective..

I prefer this though..

It's funny, but it's not true. The pee doesn't stay with him. Most of it does, but not all of it.

The problem with Delta is that it doesn't take much to get through to become infected.

The biggest danger with masks is if people think they are a guarantee, then proceed to go out with symptoms thinking they're safe because they are wearing them. Graphics as above could be classed as misinformation for this reason.

Reducing the amount of pee you get on you does sound like a good idea though, so if you aren’t too literal it works.

You realise if this federation project goes pear-shaped, you're coming with us.
I reckon the ACT Chief Minister will have his eye on becoming something more like a small European principality. Maybe like Luxembourg...

Then we'd have to have something like this:

Nah, you’re not a state. Territory was given to be the national capital and since you won’t be doing that anymore, we’ll have our land back thank you very much.

In return, we’ll bestow the title of Lord Mayor of Canberra on your chief minister.
