Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

My apologies, please find attached a more recent 'bus drives into home' in Australia event. This one was from January 2021. It also appears to have been going backwards. No-one was vaccinated.
mmmm this is problematical, given these occurrences I will get Griselda to write to Mr Menzies, or whoever the current prime minister is, and demand "holiday camps", inland and away from roads capable of carrying vehicles, are created to hold the population until Covid-Zero and bus/house safety can be achieved.

It is clear to me that the double pandemic of rogue buses and covid must be dealt with in a sensible way. :p

This will certainly make Sid "Robin Hood" James' life easier when he is out and about robbing the rich to give to....er.......er.......er.......

You could call them 'BIG0 Holiday Parks'. Just keep them at trees-length distances from trees, please.

Bad spot protests on the GC apparently with apparent threats to politicians safety in state parliament as well.

Can’t say I’m surprised - The GC hotels and restaurants have been destroyed with whack a mole border yo-yoing and our useless vaccination program up here….
Shouldn't really surprise anyone living near a tourism hot spot that people have had enough.

I think Christmas will be a deal breaker for any sort of public compliance - will all fall apart in a heap by then, if not earlier (WA included this time!)…

NSW records 1,164 COVID-19 cases as Premier makes plans for Christmas re-opening

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian says the whole nation needs to move forward together so families can reunite for Christmas as the state recorded 1,164 locally new COVID-19 cases.

The Premier said her "absolute goal" was to have every Australian be home for Christmas.

The UK stats show that when they got to 75% single dose/50% double the case rate stabilised and then started to drop quite rapidly.

Albeit what explains it going back up again now?
They have relaxed somewhat, bit it's on a frantic uptick again.

Isn't Glady's become the people's fav, well I hope so as I know some out there aren't a fav of her's.

She's really moving to get families together & for xmas, what more could people want, oh & travel of course will will come hand in hand.

Def better vibes out n about now, not many would've seen it come about with decent ol outbreak.

Shame it's coming as part of a multi-month lockdown and some avoidable deaths but as you point out this is the outbreak we needed to have to overcome Australians believing in their own exceptionalism.

NZ is following a similar path now as well.

The vaccine induced downslope was with Alpha, the new wave is a combo of delta, plus freedom day and then summer holidays and now schools returning. Note that cases rising much faster than hospitalisations.

it suggests you want a higher vaccination rate than 75% single, 50% double before you abandon all public health members under pressure from the headbangers in the Tory party. Doherty appears to take this into account, if we get to 80% double dose we’ll be in a way better position than the UK was.

As much as we talk about 80% double jabbed, it's going to be a lot higher than that - certainly in NSW/VIC who are both talking about restricting freedoms to unvaxxed.

I think NSW in particular will get to 90% and potentially 95% fairly easily.

I think we know why it has gone back up again. UK went for clean break, with ongoing restrictions (eg check-in and get pinged) being optional. NSW Premier has repeatedly said she is not going for a clean break, but a sensible staged approach.

I have doubts about 95% being fairly easy, but just a different opinion.

NSW's aim is to be the most vaccinated in the world.

From what I've read I believe: Iceland (76% of population, double dosed) and UAE (85% of population first dose) are the highest in the world.

(Edit: Singapore showing 78% first dose and 75% double dosed - on ourworldindata)

(2nd edit: Malta is 80% of of population is first and second dose)

As a note, 95% of NSW eligible 16+ is about 76% of the NSW population.

Now that the 12 - 15 age group have been approved that would bring 80% within reach.

I said 90% fairly easy - potentially 95%.

Based on the fact we are pretty much at 70% now, weekday first jabs are about 80-90K, about 1.5% of the population. We only need this trend to continue for less than 3 weeks and we're above 90%.

Based on Pfizer being booked out for the next three months, it stands to reason that while we might not get there in three weeks (suspect the proportion of second jabs will increase), I think we'll get there quite easily - and soon.

NSW has the most effective approach - you stay in lockdown until you get the jab. Don't necessarily agree with this authoritarian approach but it will get the job done.
