Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

That’s a good article. I concur with your thoughts. Will be interesting to see what if any modeling is released to the public by NSW Health
The biggest issue I see is lack of staff for additional capacity. NSW has done a lot of expansions and upgrade of hospitals in the past decade. But then ended up constrained by the staff levels. So for example Westmead has just had a 14 level building commissioned, with tons of rooms and new equipment. But they just don't have the people to staff it.

This is gonna get worse as the state opens up.

As time has passed I have become less and less impressed with Gladys 'trust me' message accompanied by less and less real information.

Please know (pun intended :) )that I think a lot of people feel the same way but really there is no alternative to their current plan, period given the situation now.

So regardless of who is steering the ship it’s going to be the same stuff just different wrapping paper anyway.

I don't think the NSW government is being honest with the public about relaxing restrictions at 80% vaccination rates

Restrictions will only be relaxed for the fully vaccinated, if you arent vaccinated no fun for you. Fully vaccinated people aren't the reason hospitals are under stress, so why punish those who have done the right thing?

This report is a bit out of date, but one can assume that the numbers are fairly static.
All quite chilling.. how many ordinary citizens will die from accidents and common diseases while the ICU's are clogged with dying Covid patients ?
Most state hospital admission processes are already overloaded .
Ambulances on ramps are the new age hospital emergency admission facilities.

This is a bit OT but put this in the 'surely it couldn't happen here' category. Health officials in Brazil stopped international soccer match against their greatest rivals Argentina 5 minutes after the start because they said 3 Argentine players who play in England were required to do 14 days quarantine. The players had already been in Brazil for 3 days and health officials waited until until after the match had started to act.

Surely not even in Queensland?

This is exactly what happened in the UK with the Nightingale Hospitals - setup quickly to cope with the expected covid surge.

An outcome from too many lockdowns over too long a period?
Yes quite likely. And possible the next outcome we will see is a rapid ramp up of hospitalization and seeking to flatten the curve we had crushed for quite some time.

Cases up again today and all we're hearing is lifting restrictions... Very odd feeling after spending this while wretched time in Melbourne.

A growing number, and the test volume seems low to me, perhaps also because of lockdown weariness.

Testing numbers have been on the low side for quite some time, not sure we will ever see the likes of 100k+ in Victoria unless government puts in requirements for surveillance testing in certain suburbs etc similar to Sydney LGAs of concern

And ramping contributes to another problem that ambulances are static and can’t attend to the next emergency.

NSW cases down today, 1281. Confirmed peak is expected within a week.

Sounds like NSW will escape reaching 2000+ daily cases, at least on a rolling average basis.

I thought I heard NSW Premier said next week - not sure if I misheard or slip of tongue. So could be up to 14 days.

She said “within a week or so”
In the 3m clip posted on ABC blog, NSW Premier said "peak of cases in the next week or so", so probably your meaning, but she did use the word next......

And when does the modelling predict they will go back up? Or they haven’t gone / released that far yet?
They will never scare monger lol modelling can't predict how things will happen when restrictions lift because the lifting restrictions probably won't be inputted into the modelling being released today.

Yes splitting hairs over words but that would mean in the next 7 days to most.

Including the Australian
