I thought this was interesting in terms of Sydney’s Freedom Day….

Looks like it’s going to be absolutely huge!

Have our Sydney AFF members all booked in their dinners and nights out?!

Pressure’s on for new Sydney hospitality venues ahead of October 11 ‘big bang’

By 4 cases! It's close.

Meanwhile - we got a little problem in Newcastle....

With the Central Coast sitting next to Newcastle and not Sydney I was surprised to find out those on the Coast will now be classed as Sydney metro again. Which in turn means we can't travel to the regional areas even though we have less cases than Newcastle. Although I will be able to travel to Sydney and bring back a souvenir for the family.

So does that mean Sydney can travel to Central Coast from next week? Are their vaccination levels high enough This bypasses the previous NSW Government decision to not allow travel to regions until the State gets to 80% double dose.

For Vic, despite the high number today the outlook looks good - hopefully [edit: the Vic numbers] can follow the outcomes achieved in NSW

I think some knowledge of statistics and probability theory is important when trying to understand sets of data especially where there is variability. This way we can avoid arriving at conclusions which are not grounded in proper analysis

One of the things not often mentioned when the Doherty modelling is discussed in the media are the confidence intervals of the predictions.

This is getting out of hand - I think its now been possibly acknowledged that the % that was calculated in post 29469 may be incorrect. [Edit: at the very least it seems there should be no % sign].

All I was pointing out at the time was that NSW's testing number reported on Monday was lower than the preceding day which was unusual (and later adding the context of 8 previous occurrences of NSW's reported Monday figure being higher than the preceding day) . And the persistent response was cross-referencing about Qld testing and how Monday figures was the testing conducted on Sunday.

I wonder if they will go up tomorrow
Basically look at the numbers for the last 7 days. Work out the standard deviation and see how much today’s number fits in the SD.

There is a more complicated method but it uses the entire data set since start of delta outbreak and calculus. Too hard

Easiest is to wait until 1105am for NSW

Meanwhile us here in Qld are watching the developments of the recent two independent outbreaks closely.

One new case in Qld, mask rules expanded

Queensland has recorded one new community Covid-19 case, bringing the total number of cases in the state to five.

The new case, a man in his 50s who lives at Biggera Waters on the Gold Coast, is a close contact of the man who works at the aviation training facility.

“We also have one additional case that will not be recorded in Queensland numbers, as they were tested positive in NSW but is a truck driver who has travelled on to the Gold Coast area, lives in Queensland, and has been in the Gold Coast area from the 25th to the 27th of September,” Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said.

As a result, the mask restriction that was announced yesterday will also be extended to include the Gold Coast.

Qld battling ‘brand new outbreaks’

Genomic sequencing of Queensland’s new cases has revealed the state is dealing with two “brand new outbreaks”.

Chief health officer Dr Jeanette Young said neither the truck driver case from yesterday or the aviation training worker are linked to any previous cases in Queensland.

“They’ve clustered with cases in NSW and, indeed, with the United States. That fits with that aviation worker who works in that facility that we know international pilots use,” she said.

“We’re just working through at the moment – those sequences have been loaded up onto our national database to see if there’s any closer link that we can find.

“But we know they’re not linked to any case in Queensland. So we have these brand-new outbreaks happening.”

Dr Young said it has been confirmed the infected truck driver that was announced yesterday has a home address in Sydney and arrived in Queensland on September 16.

Can't see the Qld Premier wanting to cancel the NRL GF at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday and changing to Townsville at this late stage - I'm sure she has everything crossed...

Crossed for what sorry?

She doesn't want to put BNE in a lockdown anytime in the next 4 days, because of the NRL Grand Final. Would be a massive blow for all involved - plus could Townsville get everything ready for hosting a GF in less than 4 days....I think not.

So they could also go down too I suppose.

I think it would be the best thing that could happen to us personally.
