Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

It isn't funny because it has become significant in the indigenous community and there is a lot of family mingling despite the restrictions. Hopefully all recover well.

Sorry but this community would have zero excuse for not being fully vaccinated. The money and resources that have been thrown at vaccinations for them is hard to fathom.

Problem is, not all horses drink when led to water. Society still has a responsibility for their well being.

I get your point. But we’re not giving the anti-vaxers that pass. At some point, people need to take a bit of responsibility for their own well-being.

To be honest, I do give the anti-vax crew that pass. It's not really their fault that the people who should have been educating the public about vaccines are totally preoccupied with educating the public about the next election.

Victoria positive test results seem to be trending up again on 7 day average, hospitalisations more stable.

NSW positives pretty stable based on 7 day average over last month, hospitalizations declining slowly over the same period:

More restrictions about to ease given the stable case numbers and decreasing pressures on the hospital systems.

Of note:

"From Monday isolation requirements will cease for close contacts of positive cases at school sites. Students who are close contacts will be required to have a PCR test as soon as possible after being notified of any exposure. They will be able to return to school immediately after returning a negative result, however they must provide negative rapid antigen home test results for the next seven consecutive days."

"Since the start of November about one third of new cases have been in children aged 11 and under, who are too young to receive a COVID-19 vaccine."

"Eighty people inside a Byron backpackers hostel were placed in a seven-day lockdown on Thursday after an unvaccinated staff member tested positive. Police said the COVID-positive person was working at the Aquarius Backpackers and had recently been in Victoria. No further cases have been identified."

With the school changes, is it up to the parents to fund the daily home rapid tests, or the state or school supplies them? I'd expect that for some families this additional $100+ cost for the tests would be prohibitive

UK supplies several for no cost to parents.

There are currently 3 Medicare item numbers associated with covid 19 testing

69501 Covid PCR test for age care workers, interstate freight workers (rail and truck), not an inpatient of a hospital $93.50 (BB =bulkbilled)
- (MBS upped the bulk billing rate so that turnaround times are guaranteed)
69479 Covid PCR test for in hospital private patients ($37.50 BB) or state public health labs outpatients ($42.50 BB)
69480 Covid PCR tests for anyone not covered by 69479 - private outpatient labs ($85.00 BB)

Interstate addresses do not change the medicare rates and by extension bulkbilling rates
However each lab can charge whatever they like. The vast majority though are bulkbilled - they accept the medicare rebate as full payment. (85% of the schedule fee)

Note that health screening for international travel (whether covid or not covid related) is not covered by medicare.
Domestic travellers like domestic non travellers are eligible for a medicare rebate for Covid testing - A interstate address does not change the level of rebate available.

However, labs can charge a fee (not bulkbill) and make the patient get a rebate from medicare.
Some State premiers are saying that interstate travellers should pay for the Covid testing while in the State - this would be the mechanism by which this would occur. Nasty.....

Small elevation in cases in a Hume, Whittlesea, Greater Dandenong, and relative stability in Wyndham and Melton

Lo hare manana. Who knew Faulty Towers wove its place into outback Australian culture.
It will be interesting to see what NEW vaccination commercials will be run in Austria and Germany, because a thing called time has run out. In Australia there was no commercial with ticking attached. What saved ACT and NSW and VIC was word of mouth, and a spike in lockkdowns / hospitalizations that touched the panic nerve. Not education, fliers, weak commercials. Time to move to the Singapore model and just give them a hope you get better card for people who opt out by choice. Hopefully scary Omicron variant will cause another vaccination and booster surge.
