regarding omicron, the only official or government technical commentary I’ve heard is from the Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt. He said that so far, cases seem to be quite mild. A good calming response I think and contrary to the expections expressed above.

There was also a health worker from South Africa on the radio this morning who said that the case as she saw were also very mild.

Even the sharemarket recovered pretty well after an initial drop on opening this morning.

If omicron is mild, but more transmissive, maybe it will be a good thing and crowd out the other variants. Can only cross fingers at this point.

iirc… bugs tend to increased transmissibility and reduced toxicity as a process to permit tolerance in the hosts..a bit like pollies

That's my thinking too.

Got a chuckle out this report on ABC blog, clearly Mr Katter needs to learn to print out his certificate or get one of his minders to show him how to use a smart phone, on his salary no excuse:

"In other COVID-19 news,Federal Member for Kennedy Bob Katter has been refused entry into a Tamworth pub for failing to provide proof of his vaccination status.

Mr Katter, who does not have a smartphone or Service NSW app, said is often let into venues by verifying his vaccination status through Parliament House.

He is fully vaccinated, but said more allowances need to be made for people without modern phones.

"The person just said, 'Out'. Very abrupt."

The NSW Health website said people without smartphones can legally print out their digital certificate or immunisation history statement, to carry with them as proof of vaccination."

My Mum doesn't have a smart phone, my Dad signs her in using his (as a dependent, which she is) and he has a copy of her certificate on his phone in PDF and she caries a printed version and has had zero issues being allowed to dine in anywhere.

Service NSW also provides a free Covid Check in card to those without smart phones that venues can scan to check them in: Create a COVID-19 check-in card | Service NSW

McClown got very upset on ABC Radio when this was pointed out. I find it amazing that, whenever somebody points out good news like less severity or limited impact on certain age groups, people actually get even more enraged.

Really proves that some people actually do get off on restrictions and lock downs.

I thought the share market was just having a Black Friday Sale. ;)

Not sure if these quotes are sourced from the same interview but it seems the AMA are more cautious: WA watching Omicron very carefully before declaring reopening date, Premier says

Mark's comments that mandates will last years is of more interest to me.

I missed that comment!

It’s worth noting that the AMA is really nothing more than a doctors union who seem keen to keep workload for its members as low as possible. They’re the reason why we have doctor shortages.

The AMA is not really the Doctor's Union anymore.more a quasi political society.
They are not the cause of doctor shortages.That honour belongs to some of our Royal Colleges,lack of Government foresight and incompetent health bureaucracies.

I pay next to no heed of their utterances but the local medical societies are valuable in getting to know all your area colleagues.

So far variants of interest/concern:

Alpha = B.1.1.7
Beta = B.1.135
Gamma = P.1
Delta = B.1.617.2
Epsilon= B.1.427 / B.1.429
Zeta = P.2
Eta = B.1.525
Theta = P.3
Iota = B.1.526
Kappa = B.1.617.1
Lambda = C.37
Mu = B.1.621
Nu
Xi
Omicron = B.1.1.529

Why no “Nu” or “Xi”?
🤔🤣
