Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Collignon was saying that Rona could also be transmitted through touching contaminated surfaces rather than predominant aerosol. At that time it was thought to be predominantly droplets - basically same transmission as influenza and other respiratory illnesses.

Even now places undergo “deep clean” if a Covid outbreak occurred.
And along with mask mandates and social distancing, these 3 policies really only mitigate the droplet theory. If aerosol only, then who could possibly think that hotel quarantine is a viable quarantine method?

The HongKong SARS apartment building superspreader event could only have been an aerosol event because patient zero was not living on the top floor. And increasingly influenza is thought to have aerosol transmission as well.

Science is about being skeptical rather than blindly/dutifully following the consensus - which is what I believe Collignon was doing.
The Pertinent Negative.

Not sure how true but did read ages ago that they thought that SARS started when someone with the infection sneezed in a lift. Or maybe it was a movie I saw 🤔

ABC Reports:

Northern Territory Police say "multiple" people have escaped from Darwin's Howard Springs COVID-19 quarantine facility.

A large number of police officers are currently at the scene.

Officers in masks are searching vehicles in the area.

Staff at the facility are conducting a headcount of those staying in the centre.

Just a couple of years ago it would have been hard to imagine the word *escape* being used in such a context.

National Resilience.

Would be willing to bet they are locals leaving nonsensical quarantine, as most international arrivals wouldn't be Territorians so wouldn't have mates who can come pick them up from Howard Springs.

People are over all these onerous rules, anyone 12+ who wants to be vaccinated has had plenty of time to do so by now, time to trust the vaccines and if absolutely necessary let people isolate at home.

Welcome to AFF.

Oh, I don't know. Escapes ( that is, leaving without permission) from formal quarantine facilities had been occurring since they came into being - hundreds of years ago. People in general don't like being confined.

So Hazard has stated at presser this morning that all 6 of the Omicron cases in NSW are double vaxed and asymptomatic - says it all really, a huge over reaction based on transmissibility rather than severity of illness.

Given the high fully vaxed rate and lack of evidence that Omicron causes severe illness in the vaccinated, people need to stop worrying so much.

I think it’s some of the CHO’s who’ve done that. This is great news. Given that OZ seems reluctant to accept overseas experiences in determining their own course I’d hope they maintain that and don’t think what is happening in low vax countries with poor health outcomes anyway to be of any relevance in a highly vaccinated country.

Seems there’s another wild one in Queensland.

As much as I haven’t been impressed with AP, maybe she’s found the magic formula. Just test virtually nobody and hope you only rarely strike a positive.

Oh dear. SA. An interstate traveller, attending several eastern suburbs venues and events has weaved their magic. Our former Premier who now lives in WA, is here for the Twiggy Forrest Foundation. He was reconciled to having to quarantine for 14 days when he returned to WA and is now deemed a close contact and has to quarantine in SA for 7 days as well. And he had several lunch functions before he was considered a close contact, including radio station and other media events, lunch with senior opposition leaders etc, all after exposure. They don't have to isolate unless the former Premier tests positive. In which case there will be a little mayhem. Even a Business SA event has been considered as a close contact so clearly some business people caught up. Ooops, and just now another one tested positive at this same event. They don't know who the infected traveller is yet! Super spreader event.

And imagine if it turns out to be omicron. What a wonderful thing to watch from afar. Probably will happen here in Tasmania as well. The medical heirarchy are scared S...less. All summoned to an important meeting on Friday.

No. We don’t need it right now. Wait until Jan pretty please.

We sat in a National call on Omicron tonight. The infectious disease experts seem to be very calm about it which is reassuring. Not that certain premiers listen to them…

Good to hear. Our CHO is so freakin reactive I don’t trust her with anything that doesn’t sit in a nice neat box.

OMG. The former Premier is positive. He’s taken out a lot of SA as close contacts!

Brilliant 😂
Well, he came to SA this week to discuss his foundation which is all about early childhood development. I just hope he didn't visit any child care facilities while he was here. He had multiple radio interviews in studios while he was here. So I think it's actually a bit serious. Also means he may miss returning to his family in WA for Christmas. So while I'm not his fan, this sucks for so many. If one of his Labor lunchtime people test positive then it's taken out SA parliament.

You literally could not write this stuff. It makes Harry Potter seem like a reasonably realistic story.
It's like the Murphys Law I mentioned last week. Think worst case and it happens. So many will be in iso now.

WHO doesn’t seem to be that concerned?
But I look forward to our rabid state premiers making up their own advice :)

WHO official leaks early Omicron data

An anonymous World Health Organisation official has hinted at the latest findings on “variant of concern” Omicron ahead of their official release this week.

Speaking to Reuters, the WHO official revealed preliminary investigations indicate most cases of the new variant are “mild” and there is no evidence to suggest current vaccines are less effective in preventing serious illness in patients with Omicron.
