Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Lols yea totally that will be followed
Well in three nights time we have a major black tie dinner for the SACA 150th. With people from around Australia and internationally. The media. Including us. If there is omicron there it will shut down the Test match. Yeah nah. That won't happen. Maybe even Marshall will be there! 😂

Media reports that SA's two suspected Omicron positives from Friday are now confirmed as being Omicron.

Lucky for them there is every indication omicron is milder even in elderly people. Stop the fear...

Yep. And people starting to be locked up for 14 days. Over Christmas.

The thing that rankles even with me. So one of the few places in the world that was pretty much free of Covid for months. Although we did have restrictions and masks etc. So we hit 80% and we open the borders, with restrictions and testing. Knowing we are voluntarily bringing in Covid. Then there's Omicron. Interstate visitors had to be tested prior, then again on arrival then isolate for maybe 12 hours until a negative result then pretty much free to go.

On the very day SA Health announced that people seen as a close contact for omicron case would have to isolate and multiple test, was the day they announced that interstate travellers did not have to isolate anymore after that arrival test. Why? Bloody Test match next week. So naturally South Aussies who have been meekly following all the rules, being vaccinated Yada Yada, have landed themselves in 14 day quarantine, over Christmas, because the borders were opened. While I was in favour of opening the borders I can completely understand why there are some very angry people right now.

SA Health and State Government have managed to unite the doona brigade with the freedom brigade against them. Haven't seen Spurrier all week. Marshall is opening up reservoirs instead of being Premier.

Wow, interesting. Hoping NSW and VIC hold the line...
Will be interesting to see if actions match words today in SA.

I heard our transitions committee was meeting to discuss 90% over five year olds! Hopefully just for interest and not for anything else.

1189 for Vic so pretty steady.

Big covid outbreaks always tour the sights of Sydney before they visit Melbourne don’t worry everyone is going to get some omicron loving soon 😂.

Currently Omicron is sipping some nice wine in the Hunter and surfing at Newcastle. It’s undecided if it will pop up to the Goldy or down to Melbourne next en masse…. Or both 😂

Omicron now making up 40% of London's cases.

Which is a good thing if it proves to continue to be much milder. UK is averaging 45k cases per day and 140 deaths per day, 1 omicron death alongside 139 Delta is not yet concerning especially since we dont know that persons other health issues.

We havent always followed UK trends. And South Africa isnt seeing widespread severe illness from Omicron even though its dominant there.

Spreading fear serves no one, we need a milder variant to become dominant to send Covid packing.

News now filtering out points to varying and in many cases quite limited vaccine protection from Omicron.
A booster currently offers very good protection against serious illness, but for how long ?
We may be in for a rocky time as what may become a mad scramble to boost everyone gets under way.
We both had boosters at the GP yesterday and they were flat out….
Personally I would have preferred to keep the Qld borders shut , whatever the cost, until the Pandemic game had played a few more cards.
We are all now flying into cloud, with limited instrumentation and rising terrain….

How many variants do you think all the borders need to be closed for? Another 2, 4, 6?
