Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

I was pinged with two possible contacts on 28/12. These came within 3 hours from returning home from the Westfield stores where I might have been exposed. So either the carriers were not isolating until receiving a negative result, or were caught up in the St Vincents debacle, and had their previous negative result reversed.

Good news less time in iso on the way

Scraping our way day by day back to normal… they might actually get more compliance if it’s more reasonable like 5 days…

Chief health officers plan winding back isolation period

Australia’s chief health officers are considering reducing the isolation period for people who test positive to COVID-19 following recent moves by health agencies in the US and the UK to shorten isolation requirements.

A senior federal government source, speaking on the condition of anonymity to detail the committee’s confidential work, said the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee was expected to report back early next year, with recommendations likely to be immediately presented to national cabinet.

The US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended on Monday (US time) that the isolation period drop from 10 days to five for people who do not have symptoms.

Or the original case had to wait 6 days for their positive result to come through so the close contacts wouldn't get a ping until today. My niece does work in a Westfield mall.

Data point on testing results. Mrs SS is a medical worker so was in the priority queue for getting both tested and receiving results at RNSH in Sydney.

Tested at 9am on 25/12.
Results received at 03.30am today (29/12).

Elapsed time 90.5 hrs.

Fortunately she didn't need the result to go to Queensland.

David Jones Sydney store is not technically in Wesfields it is across the road.

Any health worker in SHLD can get priority testing at Concord Hospital, results in 24 hours, whilsf talking up to 48hrs for general public.

No because every state would include WA

It goes without saying these days they aren’t included in much though, which subsequently and sadly means they continue to miss out on so much as well.

But there is no reason the ‘rest of Australia’ could come to an agreement, finally.

They still have their own family court so there’s a precedent

Bleh. Hopefully this means they won't then focus on those over 65 or with a chronic medical condition who can still safely manage themselves.

Clearly this is a case of a system having to break down before more appropriate measures can be brought in.
I don’t mind the messaging. Pretty much says if you can manage at home then no need to put pressure on the hospital system. Would be many that only get mild symptoms and can safely manage it at home

I view it as a pretty adult approach. Fact is that for the fully vaccinated, contracting covid (especially omicron) is highly likely to be no worse than a cold or flu which were and are typically managed safely at home. No need to panic just because what's causing your cold & flu symptoms happens to be the 2019 virus.

Did someone say living with COVID-19?

Hopefully stops people calling 000 when they get their positive test… yes it has been happening. But who could blame anyone after the state of fear we have been whipped into for 2 years by screechy premiers!

I expect that to be so because people call 000 for nonsense reasons anyway let alone this. Question - is there a difference between the infection from a cold versus infection from the (seasonal) flu? I get colds badly these days (immunocompromised) but I've never had the flu even when husband had it badly for 10 days and I didn't isolate at any time from him.

Tas has had "covid@home" since they opened the borders and the vast majority of cases are at home. Rest are in "community health care" wherever that means, but not hospital ( one case is, but not for covid).

I think we've also just abolished the 'casual contact' category.
