Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

And you can at no cost (apart from taxes+Medicare levy+futureCovidLevy)
And if you are symptomatic it matters little if the result takes a few days to come back.

There is no test in medicine which is accessible in an unlimited way as the Covid PCR - and we are now seeing what happens when something is free and freely available.

If tests or for that matter medical treatment become so easy to access without the constraints of a gatekeeper (doctor) or supply signals (cost, appointment availability), those tests will end up becoming very difficult to access because everyone will want it whenever they want and wherever the want it.

In other words - either we rationally constrain the test (by making it available with conditions as above) or we irrationally constrain the test through the delays we see today.

Or add a copayment to the test…

Correct. The vast majority of people simply follow what the government tells them to do and lack any real ability to think rationally. We all have a few friends who are generally quite intelligent but have become full covid-crazies.

The government told people to be scared, so they are, and we continue to facilitate this “testing” which only reinforces that.

Time to pull it. Require a referral. Make it chargeable.

Queensland has passed 10,000 COVID cases, 2222 cases had been confirmed. 8586 active cases.

Hopefully this gets up too

NSW push to end PCR testing for vaccinated international arrivals

NSW wants to dump mandatory PCR testing for vaccinated international travellers arriving in Sydney in favour of rapid antigen tests as part of changes Premier Dominic Perrottet hopes to announce on Friday.

The plans are due to be discussed by state and territory leaders and the Prime Minister at national cabinet on Thursday, with Mr Perrottet pushing for the change as part of a broader move away from PCR testing toward a self-administered RAT regime.

It’s really the pre-departure for your return home that needs to go. Don’t have a huge drama testing on arrival (maybe drop the isolation if there are no symptoms) but we surely are past the point of abandoning citizens in foreign countries.

I really hope this will be the case by the time I veture overseas next year.

Im sure many other are not bothering with official tests either:

Only reason I'd get it official was if I was planning to go overseas in the next few weeks and was concerned I might still test positive but not infectious.

This. I'm testing on Monday to come back from UK to QLD via NSW. Fingers crossed for a negative result. Arrive Sat 8th.
And hoping for a reduction / scrapping of 14 day home quarantine.

Ho hum.
What’s the hospital situation?

I’ll use a big word and I’m uncertain it’s the right spelling:
Let’s stop catastrophising….

Indeed.. so don't look at the pic below it may disturb your "serenity"….. what could possibly be wrong …..

Son and DIL/grandson due back from UK on the Friday. SA is 7 days but less would be nicer.

There's no hospital rates there that are currently on a different trajectory?

They'll need to raise the left hand side number soon, it'll need to go to 5,000k cases. Heck, Australia will be 100k by end Jan.

Hospitals definitely under pressure mainly due to staff furlough and patients requiring iso (positive and contacts) delaying investigations and discharges. Lots of contingency plans being drawn up.
I am hoping the covid19data graph below is predictive of less trouble ahead than feared.

So sad for the parents and family. Marshall did stress the Child died with Covid so not sure how much more detail there will be.

Within the boundaries of privacy, and not making a grieving family a political football - hopefully sufficient detail to ensure there is clear and precise reporting. If it's died "with" rather than "of" then that needs to be stressed extensively!
