Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Within the boundaries of privacy, and not making a grieving family a political football - hopefully sufficient detail to ensure there is clear and precise reporting. If it's died "with" rather than "of" then that needs to be stressed extensively!
Horrible that this has happened, but yes, similar story maybe 3-6 or so months ago of a 15 year old boy who media initially stated died of COVID, but soon after corrected that he died of pneumococcal meningitis, but had COVID presumably caught post the hospital admission.

McGowan sniffling repeatedly during his presser today, why is he not following his own advice and not going out with symptoms?

Marshall would not say whether the child was in hospital before the infection was detected. Which makes me think the child was infected post admission too. There is some meningiccoccal infection around at the moment.

Personally I think it’s not anyones business regardless - this hyper sensationalised reporting makes me feel ill. Give the family a break.

I cannot wait until the centralised mass PCR testing is shut down / severely throttled back and the media has to report on something else.

Interesting breakdown of SA hospital cases. 37 in total (same as yesterday).

19 are unvaccinated. 17 are fully vaccinated. One is unknown. Four in ICU which I think is a reduction from yesterday.

I agree but that media sensationalism will reduce if there is determined to be another significant issue because it seems the only deaths that matter to the media these days are Covid ones.

The hidden message is that SA has not been exposed to wild Covid during their prolonged lockdown. Vaccinations aside, there has not a lot of immunity from Covid out there among the population.

I have an opinion that covid + vaccinations are powerful immunisers.

On a positive note with my basic maths, European pandemic should be over by European summer.

UK and France both similar populations, around 65,000,000. Both have had circa 15,000,000 COVID infections already. Leaves 50,000,000 non infected.

COVID will infect all there. Currently high 100,000's daily cases, let's call it 300,000 in reality as twice as many again never picked up with testing. 300,000 per day x 180 days (6 months) - 54,000,000 infected.

Case closed, all done. No-one left to infect.

PS - Goodwood Festival of Speed is calling me : 23-26 June 2022. I really wanna go there this year.

You read my mind :). Happy to show vax cert but check in...no!
Even then, how much damage does 5-10% of the population do being unvaccinated when Omicron is spreading pretty well through the vaccinated.

Just remove all these checks and make it personal responsibility.

Same for Australia. Population 26,000,000.

100,000 infections per day (not out of the question) x 260 days = everyone infected by Christmas 2022.

Likely half the population exposed to Covid with antibodies present according to some estimates

Covid will be endemic. More variants
And immunity tends to wane over time especially with respiratory illnesses.
“I’ll be back”
