Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

The vast majority will recover
Likely will get the virus from the vaccinated ones

It’s a slippery slope when we start to think like that. We should care, and continue to advocate for them to be vaccinated.

Once we insert morality into healthcare, health outcomes deteriorate
Honestly I don’t have the mental energy right now to care for more than my sphere of friends and family, particularly when there has been ample reason and evidence why those external others can take action to care for themselves.

My advocacy for them to be vaccinated is a waste of my energy at this stage.

My advocacy for them to be vaccinated
That’s very understandable. We all have our own situation to contend with and Rolling Covid has not made it any easier
Luckily, the advocacy is more or less delegated anyway.

I think Empathy is the right way to think about it. It does not require an agreement with their position nor is it pity, but an understanding of their perspective. Doesn’t even need to be emotional empathy.

The most recent NSW figures (mid December) are not really that comforting - 19% of new hospital are fully vaxxed, over 50% of new ICU (but a small number so trend could go either way) are fully vaxxed. Not sure when NSW Health will measure based on 3rd dose/booster.

The next two weeks surveillance reports will be interesting because Omicron should be in full swing.

I’d hazard a guess that most folk who die from from influenza are fully vaccinated as well. It’s a vaccine, not an invincibility potion.

You should come and see some anti vaxxers perspective on things and see you try and understand it :) I have to go and work back on regional NSW in a couple of weeks would you like to shadow and hear about the lizard people? 😂

Tasmania figures. note the hospitalisations have gone down by 2.

And Tasmania's map of interstate high risk areas.

Are you sure they didn’t confuse it with the Bureau of Meteorology forecast map?

Why isn’t Hobart at least coded red. Per capita they have tonnes of cases floating now. Omicron loves the apple isle!

We have are friends with a very large family group who remain unvaccinated.
They are intelligent, educated and have made informed choices.
Their "left field" status does not change a 30+ year friendship, but we are deeply saddened for their situation.

All you can do is just hope they get Omicron and not Delta then and wish them best of luck.

Some people are so far down the rabbit hole no amount of rope will help them even from friends of 30+ years.

A very judgemental statement that reflects poorly upon the author.
People make choices…..judge not lest ye also be judged...

No no. Australians know better so what happened elsewhere doesn’t matter 🙄
Very true that statement but also there are plenty of differences between Europe and here. Vaccination rates, levels of people who have already had the virus, weather, cultural aspects. I certainly agree we can learn from others but we shouldn’t automatically assume this is just a cookie cutter.

I don't judge people but when the scientific facts are there and you try, as a friend, to make people see the reality.

Well, it can get pretty demoralising to see your efforts wasted and needless suffering possibly the result.

Testing numbers have reduced in NSW from roughly 150,000 a few days ago to 90,000 yesterday.
Positivity now roughly 20 percent.
Thousands of people enrolled in the hospital in the home program.
Lots of anecdotal reports of sick patients not being documented as they are not having PCR tests, just rapid antigen testing - which isn't included in the official numbers.
The only comfort I am taking is that ICU numbers aren't going up. Not sure how long that will be the case.
Lots of patients on the waiting list for elective procedures are about to get a rude shock.
Am I the only pessimist on this forum?

Happy to be judged on vaccinations and unless someone is a medical scientist that has discovered that the vaccines are actually going to kill us all in 3 months which has been peer reviewed and found to be substantiated - then I’m not that interested in anyones rationale anymore from 5G to lizard people to religious etc etc. it’s only the ultra hardcore anti vaxxers who are left now, and I’ve heard all the stories especially the ‘I’ve done my own research and….’

But honestly it doesn’t really matter and like we said all you can hope is that they get a mild strain not the more severe one and come out of it ok! Stats say they should be ok and hopefully no long lasting effects.

A vast and overwhelming majority of people are going to be treated at home with some Panadol and a rest with some remote monitoring as required by Primary Care.

One of our workers in Sydney had it last week. 5 days and felt normal. ‘Like an annoying cold but I’ve had worse’ (double vaxxed).

Omicron conversion rate to ICU is 6x less than Delta from data overseas.
