Yes, probably new peak soon. (Previous peak 2223 on 8 Jan).

Apparently Omicron-plus (Omicron BA.2) is 40% more transmissible than Omicron. Not sure what that means for the infections stat - Tas will get about 40% more (expect peak of 3000-3200)???

Apparently Omicron-plus has similar in terms of impact on serious illness as Omicron.

Oh well.

Meanwhile I think people have started travelling in earnest again - MEL was rammed today! Is there an event on in our events capital or something?

Looking at some PER<>NTL or SYD in the coming few weeks; options seem thin and prices are high. Looking forward to capacity coming back online...

Was packed for Moomba when I was there on the weekend but buzz around AFL season kicking off tonight with 80k expected at game

And busy in Adelaide too. Hopefully the figures won't spook our CHO but they will. She baulked yesterday at removing the mask mandate and close contacts stuck at 15 minutes which is crippling business. But people are just so compliant. One woman was saying she was a close contact because she spent 16 minutes with her now positive grandson. I mean, really?

Sure is dragging out tediously...

Their 'modelling' - that they refuse to reveal anything about (probably because it's just some guesswork ) - was forecasting 10K cases for Monday this week. Nowhere near it yet.

Yep. Don't think we've reached the peak yet..and then there will probably be a long tail....

It's funny that sitting here in London there is nothing much said about covid infection rates, rules are gone, and no one talking about it on trains/buses (well if you know London they rarely do talk there) or in shops/cafes. Still lots of people wearing masks on trains, in supermarkets. Over here most of the discussion is about Ukraine. But in Sydney, my daughter talked about a function the other day for Women's Day where 6 out of 34 tested positive within a few days following.

Same in Switzerland. People know about it but it's like a distant memory. I usually dread going back home after a holiday but this is for a whole different reason now!

Doesn't endemic relevantly mean there will be constant cases, so it will be a neverending tail or further bumps?!

Well if like the flu, a continuing rise and fall with new variants. The flu seems mainly confined colder months, whereas Covid seems able to cycle thoughout the year.

Much less of an issue now though due to the vaccination levels.

We didn't even need the theatre with outbreaks of H1N1 flu though it is nastier than Omicron 1 and 2. more lethal in young children and Pregnant women. Even a cause of blood clots just like Covid.
Why weren't we all terrified by it.

But neither is the need for panic. If vaccination worked well for Delta and with booster for Omicron then let's just wait.
