Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

But Wellcamp isn't the only financial hit that QLD has had with Covid. Until very recently they were paying out I believe a million dollars a week for the Stamford Plaza even though it closed because of the floods 2 months ago.

Now Pinkeba is to come online but part funded by the Commonwealth. At least it is Government owned so can be used as they see fit.

What I don't get is why they don't come up with a concrete plan for using these facilities for natural disasters. An occasional thought bubble sometimes is released but nothing concrete. There are quite a few in SE QLD that would love guaranteed accommodation.

My thoughts exactly. There should be no reason why well built government accommodation should ever be seen as a white elephant. I'm assuming well built as the intended purpose was quarantine. Doesn't stop it being re-purposed as needs arise. Only limitation is the imagination of those in charge of it and that could prove to be the real road block.

Tasmanian cases continue to decline. According to newspaper, 1/5 of Tasmanians have had the virus, and recovered. Graphic from The Mercury on line.

Ripping through the office again. Everyone that has received a positive RAT so far has had literally no idea they were "sick". Touch wood, still managing to avoid.

Starting today we are dropping RAT testing to 3 x weekly instead of daily pre-shift. Still need to get a confirmatory PCR if positive on RAT. Baby steps.

I wonder if it's possible to postulate economic theories, based on the 1 in five figure? If you could say that on average, every Covid case represents one working adult isolating for seven days, that's 700,000 working days lost.
Obviously, not every Covid case is a working adult, but given the close contact rules I would think the one isolating average would not be too unreasonable.

Any/many instances of people with a second round of infection?

Friend of mine - positive RAT Sunday
Wife - feeling average but negative RAT x2
Went for PCR Monday - positive

She received call from health department this morning asking how she was/needed anything. Then several missed calls from hospital she had PCR from seeking to ask same thing. Then two "authorised officers" turned up at their front door wanting to know if she was at home (and if she was OK).

Yawn, I guess I understand the checking on someone thing but what a waste of resources. Wonder how much money we're wasting on this stuff?

the new SA Premier promised three weeks ago that unlike the former Govt, the Covid updates will be made at 12 noon instead of 4pm. That promise lasted all of four weeks. Wonder if it's so high they are scared. Masks to remain only in school, poor kids. While our close contact rules were to change on Friday he was making noises yesterday that this was never as a guarantee. Well, it was.

Another nail in the coffin for testing - the Gestapo knocking at the door, FFS.

I can't believe ppl still think Gestapo "just attend people's homes".

So many ppl still not know what happened during WWII, the Gestapo didn't just knock on your door and exchange pleasantries.

FFS I can't stand these throw away lines about naz_ Germany. It's bloody shocking & so many ppl need their heads knocked on slab of concrete a few times.

Outright disgusting!

Cry me a River how tough we have life in Australia in 21st century.

They have called AGAIN. He has told them in no uncertain terms if they keep calling she'll be in hospital suffering from an anxiety attack.

ABC Radio Sydney yesterday evening had a news headline that covid deaths in NSW had doubled. It had gone up from 11 to 23. And sure enough today its back down to 12 🤦‍♀️

They followed it by a grab from one of the doom and gloom epidemiologists who was insisting we were likely to need more restrictions.

I seem to remember her a few weeks ago lambasting the NSW government for not bringing back masks while only offering minor disagreement about how the Chinese were managing things in Shanghai (saying unlikely to get to covid-0 with omicron but she didnt voice dispproval of the restrictions)

Deaths recorded as Covid-related in NSW have been 20 or above five times in the past 14 days. Doesn’t seem to be anything exceptional with numbers jumping up and down. Apparently Australia currently has the world’s highest infection rate.

Despite that 20th country in the world on death rate for last 7 days (NZ is 3rd for both cases and deaths).
(From worldometer ignoring non-sovereign territories)

. Apparently Australia currently has the world’s highest infection rate.

The fact that we’re counting home administered, unverified self-tests as part of “official numbers” no doubt doesn’t help. And I can’t imagine too many places are still offering government funded, drive through PCR testing. Joys of being a spoilt rich nation (except we’re all paying for it).

Deaths and hospitalisation isn’t even a valid figure anymore. Every single person entering hospital is “tested” so should one chop off their finger with a circular saw, they’ll likely become a “covid case in hospital”. Ditto with nanna whos had her final fall in the nursing home; “covid death”. To be honest, I’m surprised “deaths and hospitalisation” are so low given the way we test and report. But it keeps those handful of covid-crazies excited.

I thought NSW was dropping the “daily numbers” reporting?
