And even if we could and elimination was the goal, Australia would have to cut itself off from the rest of the world completely. No air crews, no people coming from overseas, no ships docking in the ports.
Perhaps elimination of community spread is the goal, as opposed to elimination of the virus.
Theres a difference between elimination and eradication:
Eradication refers to the reduction to zero (or a very low defined target rate) of new cases in a defined geographical area. Elimination refers to the complete and permanent worldwide reduction to zero new cases of the disease through deliberate efforts.
Again my point, no one knows what the target is.....
Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt says Australia will not outrightly pursue an elimination strategy, but will continue to strive towards zero COVID-19 cases
The second wave has begun. We are all in this together. Keep safe. Do the right thing.I couldn't seem to find an appropriate thread to post this in the Covid board so maybe worth starting one on Australian cases now it's here to stay. Mods feel free to combine with another appropriate thread.
Just now SA has another report - Conductor and violist Brett Dean, who was due to play at this year’s Adelaide Festival, has been diagnosed with coronavirus. He has just returned from Taiwan and has had a cough but had continued rehearsals with the Adelaide Festival Performers.
That brings SA to 8, three previously and all of whom are recovered (a couple from China and 1 from Princess Diamond) and just this week, two women one from Italy and one from Iran, a baby from Iran and now two men from Taiwan. Maybe Taiwan should have been included in the ban from China? I think my numbers are correct but Adelaidenow reports only 7.
Hmmm. So this photo ( Video shows mystery car with 'COVID 19' number plate on Adelaide road in March has the car is a different spot and no cover on.Yes. Here it is. I posted it in the other thread as i couldnt remember which thread it was

Perhaps calm down a little rather than reading so much into what is just a paraphrasing of one comment?
'Striving towards zero cases' is hardly incompatible with *any* strategy.
Because no government wants to put their backside on the line. It would be political suicide if a government came out and said its aiming for elimination and then couldn’t deliver on it.

And we were supposed to be in Athens right now but will undertake a week in Cairns next week but am worried the direct flight Adl - Cairns will be cancelled and if we get rerouted then we may run into issues especially on way back to Adelaide where they include a transit as an entry. Or that Qld will close up. Even to SA.Parents were meant to be leaving on a 6ish week trip to Europe tomorrow (clearly now not happening). This finally became a 10 day trip to NT next month. Uluru, Alice and Darwin.
Of course, no flights from CBR, so they've been booked to fly out of SYD. They were planning to drive up, spend the night in an SYD airport hotel, then fly out next morning.
Today, NT declared the entire Sydney Metro area to be a hot spot and if they spend the night in Sydney prior to flying out, they won't be allowed in to the territory.
And very valid concerns too. Not beyond the bounds of possibility that QLD will close off all inter-state travel again so seems like the safe thing at the moment is to holiday in your own State. And we were supposed to be in Athens right now but will undertake a week in Cairns next week but am worried the direct flight Adl - Cairns will be cancelled and if we get rerouted then we may run into issues especially on way back to Adelaide where they include a transit as an entry. Headline (tabloid) news tonight “Coronavirus out of control in Melbourne”. “Andrews government fails to deliver on promise to have 4000 ICU beds ready by July”. (Only 700 ready). Sheesh, I don’t know much about medical care but would have thought you wouldn’t bring ICU online unless you needed it.
Aaah tabloid news.
Yes I agree but we have pretty much covered SA because when we were younger we couldnt afford to travel even interstate. And while we get the odd nice day, SA in July and August is pretty rank. There isnt anywhere in SA I want to go right now.And very valid concerns too. I have a friend who is due to fly to Darwin in early August to visit daughter and grandchildren. Qantas has changed his flight about 3 times already, including having his flight from Canberra arrive after the new flight to Darwin left. I will mention this to him, although hopefully he already knows.Parents were meant to be leaving on a 6ish week trip to Europe tomorrow (clearly now not happening).
