Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

This is no time for change in leadership, but ultimately once the dust settles, Dan Andrews will be replaced, probably before the next election. He ultimately has to take accountability for the mess, no matter what other good or bad he is doing. Seems to be a common view, even amongst some who are big fans of his work.

And I suspect the Directors and Senior Management of the Security Firms who won the two contracts, and the pliant Directors and Senior Management Sub-contractors that farmed them out too will be in for a world of pain, and possibly criminal charges. Plus no doubt a bureaucrat or two who failed to monitor the contracts.

The guards themselves, who were also at fault will quite possibly be largely ignored in terms of penalties. If the rumours on sex are true then those particular individuals could actually be the ones most at fault.

Here we go again, at a time where community spread is growing in Sydney, this probably isn't the best time for any mass gathering.....?

Also the church cluster is growing - entire congregation that attended over 3 days now has been asked to isolate after another 2 cases identified. We are talking hundreds and hundreds of people hopefully now staying at home....

NSW Police Commissioner issues warning over proposed Black Lives Matter rally

NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller has warned that police are prepared to fine protesters who attend a Black Lives Matter rally in Sydney next week.
More than 4000 people have indicated on Facebook that they plan to attend the protest at Sydney's Town Hall on July 28.

Churchgoers told to isolate as Sydney cathedral linked to Thai Rock cluster

Hundreds of people who attended the Our lady of Lebanon Cathedral in Harris Park over three days last week are the latest group in NSW to be directed to self isolate for 14 days and get tested for COVID-19.

The warning comes after a person with COVID-19 linked to the Thai Rocks cluster attended the cathedral four times before being diagnosed.

"Two additional cases, parishioners who also attended services on these days, have now also returned a positive result for COVID-19, both of whom are in isolation," a NSW Health spokeswoman said.

Well I think NSW is doing the right things. They know where people who test positive are going like the 2 new Paddinton spots. No cases but a warning that someone who was positive was there. So people are warned and like the Thai Rock are then discovered.
The one thing that concerns me is how mobile those who test positive are.

Well its easy if you only have a handful of cases, its when the numbers multiple you hit a problem....

People are warned... sure, but I have to wonder what % of people are actually isolating though, we are probably talking hundred and hundreds now (with the addition of that huge church being required to isolate with 2 more infections identified this afternoon) that *should* be isolating for 14 days, we know from human behavior that it won't be the case that all of them do it.

The geographic spread though is concerning and that is what NSW are clearly so worried about less so than the smallish numbers (so far), is the fact it is popping up literally everywhere in Sydney, its like a game of whack-a-mole right now.

BREAKING: Black Lives Matter Protest will go ahead despite Fuller warning: organiser

Paddy Gibson, one of the organisers of next Tuesday's rally in Sydney, said he had not been deterred by Commissioner Fuller's comments and the protest would proceed as planned.

"We have prepared a comprehensive safety plan based on the guidelines the NSW government has put together for those organising events."

"If we are given a good amount of space and allowed to have a rally facilitated by the police, it will be a whole lot safer than a lot of the commercial activity that continues to happen in NSW - such shopping centres, markets, [and] sports stadiums."

Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman fly in from the US and are allowed to self isolate at home

I suspect this may have been the prime reason for gaining the exemption.

The couple's arrival Down Under comes after Nicole was given the green light to film her new TV series, Nine Perfect Strangers, in Australia.

The production, based on the 2018 novel by Liane Moriarty, will reportedly inject $100million into the struggling local film industry by creating hundreds of jobs.

Given ScoMos $400 million carrot announced the other day, I think you can expect that this will become commonplace.

Dani Minoque recently gained a similar exception in Qld to come back and film The Masked singer, though she is only a cast member and did not bring $100 million in with her!

There are exemptions being given around the place for home isolation, its just that not everyone of them has the surname Kidman and so it doesn't make the news.

And she is bringing a huge production of the next 'Big Little Lies' to Australia which will employ a lot of people so that probably greased the wheels.....

.....Plus her homestead makes Kirribilli house look like the gate keepers cottage, they would really never leave 😂

There are winners and losers from this pandemic and others who are much the same. There has been a world of pain and stress for many.

One of my mates is at a lift company. Their business is booming over their international competitors as Otis etc cannot guarantee to meet tight timelines.
My neighbour is a IT Data-warehose Specialist. Again business is booming as companies have moved more and more online, and his firm has never been busier.
My neighbour on the other side was contractor in the advertising hoarding business. In March the firm that contracted him ceased his contract and said that they would call him again when things picked up. He is still waiting for a call.
Unfortunately my business is one of the numerous losers. It earnt its last $ from a customer in mid-March and I doubt it will earn its next $ from customer till October/ November, and I actually know many worse off than myself as I fortunately have no financial problems or liabilities.

I was speaking with management at several major hotels in the Gold Coast about a month back and they were in dire straights. 95 % of their staff stood down. So they will grateful from the $$$ now be generated from all the AFL, Rugby and Netball teams relocating to there and the Sunshine Coast. Their staff will be grateful too.

Personally I am of the view that we need to encourage the creation of jobs where we can and where there is no real health risk. The $400 million carrot offered by ScoMo is a very good move to get more movies, tv shows and netflix shows all made down under.

If the cost of that is that some celebs will fund their own quarantine in luxury, then I am ok with it. Thousands of Australians in many different careers will be back in work. Struggling companies will be able to start working again. And apart from the $$ please do not underestimate the mental health gain from people being able to work again, and the sheer misery and depression that is rife amongst many at present who cannot work or operate their business.

Remember too that these celebs are the same ones who have always flown in in their privates jets and often had different and private customs clearance. So preferential treatment has always been there.

Our lady of Lebanon Cathedral in Harris Park

The lady was a member of the choir singing at the church everytime she attended. This is very disappointing because:
a. health authorities had previousluy advised against choirs and singing - as the voice projection send droplets much further than talking hence requires much larger distancing. In fact, choirs are banned under state restrictions - so i expect the Chruch to be fined, if they wanted music at a service they could have played a CD/Spotify etc
b. attending a religious service is hardly an essential service - there is zero need to go to a place of worship multiple times a week - if you want to pray do it at home, then you are not risking your health and that of others.

Very selfish people. And done in the name of religion. ☹️

Be careful what you wish for (if you start wishing). 😀

Not wishing, just passing commentary (mostly, he seems to do right by the state, except in this instance). Ultimately if he survives, Dan will be dodging a very big bullet. Unfortunately, this virus ruthlessly exploits blindspots. So if you're a political leader, either you're either lucky enough not to have a blindspot, or will struggle to survive when it's time to answer to the people*.

* Far better it would seem to lead a cult, and make a huge number of monumental errors, and blame Gyna for everything. 🤣

Mistakes all around.... cough Ruby Princess cough.... I think we should just cool our jets and focus on fixing right now.

I firmly belong to the "give Dan a hug " club. The stress he is under is enormous. People taking gratituous potshots really annoys me, I wish those people would google allostatic load and then explain how they would do better.

Its probable and arguably fair that JobKeeper will be scaled back in some states (e.g. WA, QLD. SA) and industries, to allow more support to flow to more affected states and industries. Will be interesting to see what they do...

An announcement from the Federal Government has been brought forward to tomorrow, 21 July 2020. It was to be on Thursday.

I reckon it'll be sector specific rather than State specific. For instance, aviation and tourism/hospitality will be (if I can use the term in challenging times) "winners."

Sorry, but it's not 'gratuitous.' He and his colleagues have made a number of extremely serious errors.

I hope you don't think I'm taking a potshot at him. That's not my intention. He's doing a great job under incredible stress, and I think a great job at trying to handle the situation Melbourne has found itself in. If he pulls the state out and the numbers start moving down in the next week or so, he might pull through. But if they don't, he will be ultimately answerable for it. The virus is dynamite politically, Jacinda Adern has copped a lot of flack, but seems to have had success with NZ, which has boosted her credentials. It could go either way for Gladys. But Dan seems to have drawn the short straw right now with some costly blindspots. ScoMo's alright, he just has to keep on signing the cheques and leave it up to the states 🤣

A huge problem in Victoria is that the Health Dept seems to have lost any ability it had to trace irus carriers and with whom they've been.

There's somewhere between 750 and 1000 individuals for whom it hasn't been able to do this.

From general reading, this also occurred overseas including in the UK.

In NSW, so far this hasn't been a problem. Apparently the Victorian health dept has received some criticism for understaffing and/or lack of qualified staff to undertake this detective work.

Not you at all, was referring to the general community. You see so many comments online disparaging him. Yes there were mistakes but he is doing the best he can with no rule book and no time to make long term plans or decisions. It is a bit like everyone blaming the child protection worker when a child is killed. They conveniently forget that the (insert name of offender) killed that child.
