Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

6 Baggage handlers at Qantas Adelaide tested positive today. A jump to 33 with 3 more Ruby Princess positives. Must be due to end soon!

Ruby along with Diamond has left Princess with a dreadful legacy.
Princess Cruises has had 3 ships with a large amount of Covid-19 cases (Diamond - Yokohama, Grand - Oakland, Ruby - Sydney), one with suspected cases (Golden - Melbourne) and a number of others which have been refused permission to enter any ports or had 'security incidents' at the port when they docked.

I foresee a delay in the baggage reaching the belt on their return

And likely as the Ruby passengers flew into Adelaide just over a week ago and now the baggage handlers are positive. Last international flight was about the same time but not heard anything of positives from that.

So it really does last on surfaces?

So it really does last on surfaces?
All current information shows that it can survive on surfaces in viable amounts for up to 3 days, depending on the type of surface. plastic and steel are the worst with copper (4 hours) and cardboard (24 hours) being the better surfaces tested.

There have been reports of trace amounts being detected after 9+ days in some cases, but these haven't been found to be in amounts capable of infection.

In that case am surprised that community transmission is not higher.

Hence the importance of handwashing, cleaning regularly and in particular the touch hotspots.

But yes how much virus is needed to be infected? It does not seem to state anywhere (and perhaps this is not yet really known), but from the inferences you need more than just a little contact.

But surely the likely source for the ADL baggage handlers is from the Ruby Princesses bags which would have been handled by the pax well less than 24 hours before the baggage handlers got their dirty hands from those bags.

I know one of them and he was saying that one of the others showed symptoms 3 days ago and was refused testing initially.
