Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

In Melbourne they apparently had some law protecting human right to minimal exercise/fresh air or something like that.....read an article. If I understand correctly, it was inadvertently referred to by Vic CHO in the past week
Well there you go! What could possibly go wrong. No such thing in SA. And I betting most of Australia didn’t know this happening either. 🤬

Yep quite a few of us knew about this. Sparked quite an outrage on the Covid Dr Facebook.
Brett Sutton confirmed it after being asked at one of the press conferences.
Victorian Charter of Human Rights.

A reporter asked him to confirm the situation for those in quarantine who have tested positive to the virus.

“Those in quarantine because they have tested positive, are they allowed to leave for exercise?” she asked.

“They are, otherwise it is detention and we do not have detention for cases in Victoria. They are entitled to exercise within their home and their garden, ideally,” Professor Sutton responded.

Ummmm......from a public health perspective, one might personally regard it as one of the finest moment of public duty, ensuring medical knowledge is implemented as intended.

So they couldn't get fresh air by opening a window, sitting in backyard or on balcony if in a unit. After supposedly having the strictest rules, we keep finding out about more and more lax implementation in Vic. Any positive or close contact should have the same rules as proper hotel quarantine - you don't leave the property you are quarantined in unless its to go tot he hospital (and call an ambulance do not take PT). Two weeks staying indoors will not have any long lasting impact on your physical health, but it will greatly reduce exposure to other members of the public who may have been out rightfully exercising.

I only saw part of last night Q&A (i was busy assembling my new Ikea lounges) and haven't often had much time for Kerryn Phelps historically, but when she expressed exasperation at 17 passenger (not freight) flights a day still arriving into SYD since the Vic Border closed I had to agree. Surely by now any NSW residents needing to return could have returned, and if these huge movements are essential workers maybe NSW Gov could share some stats? Id liek tohear more about how NSW are checking up on those who are supposed ot be isolating on return from Vic.

Depends on your perspective. I would have said advising anyone with COVID-19 to stay away from anyone else to be safer.
Mind you the good old DHHS website still doesn’t appear to have been updated.

This is just madness. Everyone would have used "exercise" as an excuse.

I hope NSW and other states would look at this and change the rule, if the current law allows them to exercise outside their property.

It was announced at today’s Vic press conference that cannot leave if positive (if I was listening correctly) except for emergency medical (ie going to emergency department)...so maybe update by end of day

I suspect SA will act far more proactively (and has already) than sleepy NSW....
Sleepy NSW is still in calling each known contact within 24 hours.
total community transmission was only up 12 in total for the last week than the week before though unknown source from 3-12.
And again look at the map of LGAs in NSW and the vast majority of the State has had no cases in the last 4 weeks.Outside the Sydney,Wollongong,Newcasthe and Blue Mountains there has only been 6 cases.

It’s a relative usage of the word. And like some here I’ll take any positive 😳 news when I see it.

I know I know, there just seems to be a lot of complacency setting in (not from you) which breeds sloppy behaviour.... like in Bondi over the weekend, even when there are multiple clusters nearby. Feels like wave 1 all over again!

I calculated 18 community transmission in total in a previous upthread post since Crossroads emerged

It doesn’t
Only Victoria due to their Charter of Human Rights.
We in home isolation in NSW must exercise in our home or garden.
No going outside in your activewear.

Sorry, I dont get the angst about people sneaking off for a drive through coffee after the test. They could just as easily purchased one on the way to the test and nothing would be heard.

Sorry, I have a big beef with that. That sort of statement "the rules don't apply to me" is exactly why Victoria is where it is today.

Rules are rules. They don't need people who have found an excuse not to do what they were instructed.

Yes I listened to that.
Should never have been permitted in the first place.
Absolutely bonkers that it’s taken until Stage 4 lockdown for common sense to prevail.

I'm starting to think that the concept of 'social distancing' might be doing some degree of harm
Its a relatively new addition to the public health armamentarium and seems to be detracting from the established principle of strict isolation
That's not to say it shouldn't be done, should just be clear about its limitations

They were Queenslanders sneaking off to buy coffee before their isolation by the way, but your point is correct regardless I believe

I said pages ago we need to stop with the fluffies around people deliberately breaking Covid requirements when they are positive but this just leaves me shaking my head in disbelief. So they can legally go ‘anywhere‘ as long as it’s in the guise of exercise. Really no wonder Victoria is well, I won’t say it here, ...... right now.

Queensland gov getting a bit sloppy in the media this week over a few things.

Per someone elses post upthread of course Jetstar has people's contact information.... seemed a bit weird when QLD Health was claiming they didnt....

------------

Airline rubbishes contact detail claims from Queensland Chief Health Officer

Jetstar has hit back at claims from Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young that it could not tell authorities how to contact passengers who shared a flight last week with a man later confirmed to have COVID-19.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the airline said customers were required to enter contact details on domestic flights as part of the booking process, directly contradicting comments this morning from Dr Young.

"We keep records of this information for all our flights in case we need to contact customers with information regarding their flight," they said.

So they get the coffee on the way to the tests. Nothing would be said. And given the latest info about Victoria - even if positive I can walk past the coffee place in the guise of exercise.

I was hoping the Vic premier would say if you positive and you are not at home, we will break down your door to look for you and then search and find you then put you in jail pending court action.

Utterly disappointed in him/associate Police rep

And we have the opposite view with people circulating memes saying his is a naz_, him dressed in hitler uniforms and the state is a police state and it is all totally unnecessary. He is walking a tightrope that he will have few friends on either side of the equation. Don't envy him for one microsecond.

We are going to continue to disagree, which rules are you allowed to break and which ones not? Your reasoning is about as good as :

"Well I went out to dinner last night, why shouldn't I go to dinner tonight, my results aren't back and I probably don't have it"
"Shes a hot chick, says she feels well and doesn't look sick, lets have it on"
"I know my family members, they all shower daily and are careful, lets have a party at my place"
