Also some reports indicating new public health measures to be announced.
As a result of the cluster, strict new restrictions will be imposed on gatherings in South-East Queensland.

It means gatherings in homes will be restricted to 10 people.

Gatherings outside, for example in parklands, will be limited to 10 people.

The regions affected by the restrictions are Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, Scenic Rim, Lockyer Valley and Redlands.
....

qld CHO

"Remembering, of course, people have been outside their suburbs into a broader area, but the suburbs are Marsdon, north Ipswich and Forest Lake."

"Because of the extent of this and because we want to as our plans have said right from the start to get on top of this as quickly as we possibly can, that's why I've advised that we need to immediately [be cautious] in all of Brisbane, so Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, the Scenic Rim."

"The greater Brisbane area, not the Gold Coast and not the Sunshine Coast, the Greater Brisbane area I've asked and we will be implementing as soon as this press conference is finished, that people can only gather in groups of 10."
....

qld Health Minister

"These new restrictions apply throughout the Metro North, Metro South and West Morton Hospital and health services. Aged care facilities in those districts have already been locked down to visitors as have disability accommodation, providers and hospitals have escalated their protective equipment rules and usage."

...
qld Premier

"The first message we will be giving people is that effective immediately, gatherings in your home will be reduced to 10 people."

"Gatherings outside, for example, in parks will be limited to 10 people."

"That includes people living in the areas of Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, Seenic Rim, Lockyer Valley and Moreton Bay and Redlands."

Outside of Greater Brisbane gatherings inside homes and outdoors are limited to 30 people.

....

edit: all commercial enterprises with Covidsafe plans above these limits can continue above these limits.

We were wondering that actually :). Fly to Sydney and drive? I am sure it is more an attempt to get some sort of changes happening.

He is trying to get the other states to open their borders to ACT by promising to get drivers’ licences checked multiple times and only ACT residents allowed to fly (or residents of the state they are flying to). Happy to throw neighbouring communities to the wolves. Of course it doesn’t solve the issue which got us banned in the first place, of say a QLD resident flying to Canberra driving to an NSW hotspot and then flying back via Canberra claiming to have been here all the time....

EDIT - Talking of pollies Mr FM and I plan to be even more paranoid than we usually are for the next few weeks. parliament goes back and we are flooded with pollies and their staffers. Who wants to bet on them doing the right thing?
Canberra Airport Saturday closures from today

Saturday closures at Canberra Airport have started, brought on by coronavirus restrictions and border closures.
After reporting a 99 per cent drop in passengers, airport management made the decision to only operate six days until at least October 1.
Management will then reassess the situation, and if matters haven't improved will consider closing for at least one other day and overnight, throughout the week.
Head of Aviation, Michael Thomson, said Canberra Airport is doing what it can to stay open and keep people employed.
"We are committed to the recovery of Australian domestic aviation and the importance it has for thousands of people's livelihood and the economy," he said in a statement when the closures were first announced.
"Yet without a domestic aviation recovery plan in place there will be no Australian aviation and thousands more jobs will be lost.
"We simply can't keep functioning when aviation travel is down to around one per cent of pre-COVID-19 passenger numbers."

. Damn those irresponsible people.
Yes agree.

In many way the biggest problem are all the symptomatic people who for whatever reason refuse to get tested, still go to work, visit family and friends etc.

For whatever reason a new case can occur, including at at no fault of patient 0, but what allows many clusters to grow and to then possibly even become outbreaks (such as in Victoria), are the symptomatic spreaders .

One of my wife's friend rang her last night for a regular catch up. One of the conversation points was that the mother of wife's girlfriend who is in aged care had just recently had a symptomatic worker present for a shift at her facility. It is a well run facility and so people starting shifts are all checked. The supervisor picked up that they were symptomatic, instructed the worker to immediately go for a test, and enacted all measures of their Covid plan, which includes advising all designated contacts of residents that they may have been a positive case. The mind boggles how people can still arrive at work knowing that they are symptomatic, let alone at a high risk setting as an aged care facility.

You guys are so wide of the mark and are really showing your ignorance on the subject ...
A bit like casting pearls before swine?

I can say that because I was quoted (being one of the ignoramuses/ignorami). 😉

That’s the problem. He uses his title and previous position as a Chief medical officer and medical scientist to promote non scientific analysis for political ends. Simply apalling, Let’s get back to the days of an Independent public service. (Yes i know that’s a fantasy.)

If TA was still in the chair, Brendan would probably be on the Knights and Dames shortlist. Will probably just have to settle for the AO now.

Nsw today reports 9 cases:

- 4 are close contacts of unknown source cases
- 2 are under investigation
- 1 linked to Tangara cluster
- 2 linked to Bankstown funeral cluster

Vic Premier on regional Vic:

"In terms of those active cases, particularly as it relates to regional Victoria, this is something we have been quite focused on, you would remember we were up over 500 active cases not very long ago."

"I am happy to report now there are 247 active cases across local government areas in regional Victoria that are covered by stage three."

"And to give you an example, the file in those numbers and the stability, Greater Geelong now has 98 cases, they were much, much higher than that only a few days ago."

"Greater Bendigo has 25 [cases], that is fairly stable, but they relate in large part to a number of outbreaks, and Ballarat has just four active cases now."

"So we have seen a reduction in those big, regional cities, and we are seeing less cases across regional Victoria, that is exactly what we want."

"But again, if you are in one of those large cities or anywhere in regional Victoria, anywhere in the state, in fact, and you've got even mild symptoms, please come forward and get tested at one of the over 190 test sites we have established across the state."

Sorry, Chianti classico of course ... because I'm a bit of a wine snob. 😆
In a Fiasco Quattro from Ricasoli I assume?

”In the 1991 film The Silence of the Lambs Hannibal Lecter delivers his most quotable line "A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti." In the original book, however, Lecter stated that he ate the meal with "a big Amarone".”
