Normally I don't have a problem with this - it's the price of being a federation - but I do have a problem when "people are frightened" is a scientific reason why borders remain closed and someone else is having to pick up the bill.

I'm with you 100% The is less chance of reducing Tas's GST cut than getting the rifle out of:

The frustrating thing is at the start of this year, Tas's economy was rated 1st or 2nd for the prior year. Now we'll be the beggar of the nation again.

The CMO of Tas, Dr Mark Veitch has a manner designed to put everyone in a coma. He's the uber cautious one that won't let us travel back from South Austraia without quarantine because "their border with Victoria is porous". FFS. He's also the one who cited "people are frightened" as one of the reasons he's advising the government to keep the borders closed. He deigned to go on ABC radio this morning and basically talked the whole time, so few questions could be asked.

That said, the majority of the state would be behind him 100%. Stuff the job losses,
Maybe he needs to experience an arrival into Adelaide airport then.

Or to win an election.

Thank you. Looking at that very little is new except that it is all on a "dashboard". Most of that information has been on the DHHS website for some time already, but you had to click through various links and some of it was in "slide" type format. So many probably did not know it was even on their website.

I wasn’t a fan of Andrews in the early days, because it seemed like his government had presided over a fiasco that has affected the whole country. However over the last month, he has kind of won me over. He has worked so hard to get things back under control. I must admit I have got to the point where I would like to see him take a few days off - no one can keep driving themselves like he is :(

I'm still not a fan because I believe that some poor decisions are still being made. But I can see why some like him.

He gets a tick for me for effort, not so much for ability. I think the endless press conferences are a tactic - the wall of words means no one can remember what was said in any great detail.

Ultimately he’s been dealt a bad hand by failures in DHHS but labor has been in power most of the last 2 decades in Victoria so the buck stops with them. I do think at least one Minister needs to go.

I have read that discussing in elaborate detail is a particular tactic to confound the listener in press conferences.

I have watched a few of the VIC press conferences but don't bother anymore. It may seem harsh but you never learn very much, they are way too long and everyday seems to be much the same as the day before. They also seem to be the only press conferences where there is a requirement for a tag team of deaf interpreters!

The Vic government must have tons of data by now but there is a reluctance to analyse it or share it in a meaningful way. Just my perspective.

I felt the same in the UK when we had daily briefings. Got very long in the tooth very quickly.

Wait until Jobkeeper starts disappearing....

If states like Queensland, WA, SA and Tasmania wish to take the unrealistic “elimination” path and lock themselves up to “protect their state economy”, then I am unsure why they are receiving federal jobkeeper. They’re already having all coronavirus medical costs met by the commonwealth...

That's what the Tas guy Veitch did when on the ABC yesterday. Went on and on and on in answers, so nobody could remember what the question was and whether he had actually addressed it, and also left little time for other questions. He's got a long future in front of him.

Anything in particular?

Allowing large gatherings just because they are categorised as 'entertainment'? ... whilst not allowing others, like funerals with, say, 15-20 people, even with appropriate COVID protocols. The Singer show had to send 200 people off into isolation.

And now he's become a late-night tweeter. Can't be healthy.

But of course we saw the result when the Prime Minister had the audacity to take some time off with his family in January - and he wasn't even in authority in the then crisis. I doubt Premier Andrews wants a similar media pile-on and you could hardly leave the Health Minister in charge of the situation.

Particularly the issue with dancing. Under studio lights in small studios means sweating and breathing heavily. Dont know what happened interstate but dance classes weren't permitted here at all until long after gyms were able to re-open. And dancing at weddings, even for the poor old husband and bride, still isnt permitted here. It isnt just Victoria that has stupidity. Except ours is at the other end of the risk scale. However clearly in pandemic times I know which end of the scale I'd prefer.

RooFlyer answered it for me. While it is enjoyment it is not essential and involves high risk behavior.

Posted in the international flight thread but this is going to be a cause of much angst.Hong Kong IT worker confirmed to have a different strain of Covid than first infection in April.142 days in between infections.

Not returning the 'favour' to QLD, although by AP/JY's 'rationale' Brisbane would be banned if the situation was reversed  😂

NSW WON’T CLOSE MORE BORDERS, SAYS BEREJIKLIAN

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has reiterated that she has no plans to close the border with Queensland, despite a recent coronavirus outbreak in the state.

“The rates of community transmission in Queensland are very low,” said Premier Berejiklian. “We should really be careful when we take those big decisions, because it does adversely impact communities.”

The NSW Premier has long advocated keeping borders open but has been involved in a months-long spat with her Queensland counterpart over the issue.
