Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

And apparently the Vic budget was over blown by many millions, compared with other states who didnt depend on private security. And also heard this morning that the enquiry stated that Vic Health was in charge of all quarantine infection control. Which in reality means, infection spread.

The whole quarantine thing is one big C&*@#&*#ck. One of the testimonies before the inquiry from a hotel manager suggested there were over 100 different dietary requests. In our benevolent dictatorship 14 day quarantine it was base-level catered halal nut free gluten free food (didn't have a slice of bread the whole time) and - 3 choices veg, local, western. Take it or order in at own expense.

Personally I think too much $$, energy and management time has been taken up appeasing the whims of those in quarantine. These are by and large not marginalised members of the community, these are people who have been overseas and have had the means to get back to Australia. If mental health is a concern, employ a stack of counsellors to attend to those at risk, than have to spend so much energy, and take so much risk, letting everyone out for 20 mins every day.

Possibly, but it seems only to have been an issue in Victoria. So why is that? I wonder if the uniforms of ADF and Police and those of dedicated health personnel made people think about the situation and not themselves so much.

On the other hand, now that people are paying for it, I'd expect reasonable food.

Interesting in SA today
"The Thebarton COVID-19 cluster is officially busted, thanks in part to a huge surge in coronavirus tests among younger South Australians, which is preventing a “second wave”. (Thebarton Cluster occurred from an essential traveller returning from Vic who went into isolation at a Hotel but gave Covid to his girlfriend and two other friends, all of whom attended Thebarton Senior College, attended by adults. They isolated in a paid for Hotel approx 80 close contacts and around 1000 other students and teachers went into self iso)

SA Health figures show a more than six-fold boost in virus checks of people aged between 21 and 30 as the state’s testing regime remains among the nation’s best.

Chief Public Health Officer Professor Nicola Spurrier said she was “very encouraged” by the surge as she praised younger generations for heeding medical advice.

“Testing for COVID-19 is the only way we will ensure there are no undetected cases. Testing is the key to our continued success,” she told the Sunday Mail."

Possibly, but it seems only to have been an issue in Victoria. So why is that?

Probably because it is not so. There have been "guests" complaining about hotel quarantine Australia wide.

etc

.... and that's nowhere near a complete list.

Not sure if captured upthread

extension of Queensland Restriction at non-covidsafe plan venues

From 8am Monday, restrictions on gatherings and aged care will extend to the Darling Downs. Gatherings in people’s homes and outdoors will be limited to 10 people in the Western Downs, South Burnett, Cherbourg, Toowoomba, Goondiwindi, and Southern Downs council areas

Well, my friend enjoyed her isolation at the Grand Chancellor in Hobart. The ballroom was fitted out as a walking track with layout changed a couple of times. I think they could go a couple of times a day. Harbour view, too. I hear the other place was a bit grimmer.

Sitting in an outside hotel bar in Hobart Town. My first experience of a pub environment since the pandemic hit. What pandemic 😊? Hugging, kissing ( not for me 😟). Personally I don’t mind but I don’t think Dear Leader would be amused.

Edit: Going to an engagement do tonight ( again, not mine 😕); will see how that goes.

Attended the SANFL last night and then had to pick the wife up in town at a Hindley St venue and the whole precinct was packed. No signs of SD at all. My wife works just off Rundle Mall and said it has been busy for weeks with no attempt by people to maintain distance. This warmer weather is bringing everyone out

Scandal! I do believe this young lady is ... dancing! Dancing is not allowed in the PDR Tasmania. Expressly forbidden only two days ago by Dear Leader, except by bridal party at weddings. I’m waiting for the Health Dept security goons to barge in at any moment. This could get ugly if she starts a modern dance, like the Twist. 😱

Which has pretty much been the case here in Europe too, hence why cases have risen again.

You may not remember, but it’s probably called foreplay, not dancing.

Sure. They may have complained but nothing much came of it. Certainly no thoughts of giving them more than what was appropriate in a quarantine environment.

So moving 400 in NSW was nothing much?
Umm, completely different situation. Clearly there were hygeine issues in the hotel. And I reckon you know that clearly some got privileges simply because they managed to manipulate the security people in a variety of means or make excessive demands that others were not making.

There have been stories from people in hotel quarantine throughout Australia who have complained about being locked up, denied fresh air/exercise, not good enough food etc.

If you wish to believe that such complaints have only been made in Vic, then that is your right. A quick google would show otherwise and I have already provided links to just a small sample. I will not bother to link any more as it would seem that you are just going to ignore their existence.

I would expect there would be complaints Australia wide. We are massively preventing people's freedom. But that isnt my point. It is how those complaints were dealt with that is the issue. And which the enquiry will establish as it seems quite independent and objective and able and willing to establish benchmarks particularly with the most relevant example, which is Sydney. Just maybe I'm not the one in denial here.

Another evening, another NSW health alert. Seems like an instructor or staff given the Phase 2 warnings. As previously noted, NSW Health also asking people who visited City Tattersalls (guess Club or Fitness Centre) 4-18 August to test and isolate until negative test - probably trying to find source.

NSW Health is investigating new cases of COVID-19 in relation to City Tattersalls Fitness Centre on Pitt Street.

These cases attended the centre during the past few days, while unknowingly infectious and after being exposed to infections in the gym.

Anyone who attended this venue on the following dates and times are considered to be close contacts and must immediately get tested for COVID-19, and self-isolate for 14 days since their last visit.
  • Wednesday 19 August between 8am - 2pm
  • Friday 21 August between 8am - 2pm, including:
    • Aqua Aerobics from 10am-10:45am
    • Stretch Class from 11am – 11:50am
    • Pump Class from 12:15pm - 1pm
  • Sunday 23 August between 8am - 2pm
  • Monday 24 August between 8am - 2pm
  • Tuesday 25 August between 8am - 2pm
