Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Gym staff - particularly instructors - are like a younger, fitter version of aged care workers in that they work lots of places quite often.

Most probably loads of asymptomatic gym people (fit / hardly affected) buzzing round Sydney as we speak. Oh well we have to live with it!

Qld reports 1 new case, linked to corrections training Centre.

No change to contact tracing locations since 6pm Saturday (about 120). I note some may start dropping off for being more than 14 days old

Today's deaths total includes 22 people who died in the weeks leading up to 27 August and were reported to DHHS by aged care facilities yesterday. More info will be available later this morning.

What is going on here? Are some aged care facilities reporting on a weekly basis? Why?

Good news on numbers of cases. Bad news on deaths.

#COVID19VicData for 31 Aug 2020.

There were 73 new cases and sadly 41 deaths.

Unfortunately with hundreds of cases still in aged care the death tally will continue seeing numbers like this for a little while

It indicated that more details will be given later. Presumably in the daily presser.

This may be why the figures were late in coming out today. ie They would have wanted to understand why the sudden jump in deaths.

Yes I think we all know this.

At least the 41 today is not a single day surge. But is 19 today with 22 from before 27 Aug.

New daily cases and growth for Victoria based on 7 day average as of today's data (31 Aug).

It is interesting how linear the decline in new cases on a 7 basis has been. If it continues, and it may not, then at the end of the 6 week restriction period, if not just before, cases will be about zero. One would tend to think a flattening off will occur once cases get low with a more asymptotic shape.

As this is a 7 day average if the trend continue new daily cases would hit zero in say about a week. Though again a more asymptotic decline is probably more likely.

And of new cases per day over the last 14 days including today.

@NSWHealth

Ten new cases of #COVID19 were diagnosed in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.

All four locally acquired cases are linked to the CBD cluster. These include:
• Two who are household contacts of previously reported cases
• Two who are a close contact of previously reported cases

A new set of reduced restrictions will be announced on Sunday by the Vic Gov.

ie Easing out of Stage 4 restrictions in Melbourne GMMA etc.

This sound like it will include a "roadmap" out as they are calling it which flag a series of steps out. ie staggered easings. Timelines will not be fixed as will vary depending on cases etc.

(As per the graphs I posted just earlier by Sunday if the reduction of cases remains on trend by Sunday new cases will hopefully be extremely low per day)

On the Vic deaths total of 41 today, and the 22 included for past deaths. The deaths go back to late July.

It sounds like it is due to reviewing the cause of death, and which had a CV19 link.

Deaths in age care occur of course even without CV19.

I’m hopeful of at least single digit new cases. hopefully, Vic will make it clear what the target is eg single digit and no community transmission for a week

Yes I think we all know this.

That we will continue to see numbers like 40-odd deaths / day for a while? I certainly didn’t know that!! Please don’t assume for the rest of us what we do and don’t know. I am shocked and surprised by today’s fatality number.

If you read what had been posted before your post you would know that today's total is actually 19.

Victoria 73 new cases 41 lives lost...RIP / 😭
When there were 700 cases in a day and this was a time of significant nursing home infections then this figure was always going to happen and likely very many more to come. Sad times.

It might make for more pleasant experiences here if people (like me) who are very confused about the strangeness of daily data that seems to be updated randomly, are not berated by others for their confusion.
