And QLD exported cases to NSW. The case on board a foreign ship in Newcastle last week, had spent the prior few days (infection period) in Brisbane

The Vic. premier looks utterly defeated at today’s presser. Not a fan of him but he probably needs a bit of time away for the sake of his health. Not sure why he has to front up to the media everyday

Apparently Melbourne schools (excluding years 8-10) resumes today

and one that reopened last week has already had to close today indefinitely as a student has Corvid.

Meanwhile, a school in Noble Park was closed after a senior student tested positive to COVID-19.

Students at Nazareth College missed out on the return to face-to-face learning on Monday, after the Department of Health and Human Services confirmed the positive test on Sunday night.

In a letter to parents, principal Sam Cosentino said the school would be closed until further notice.

“This closure will allow time for the school and the DHHS to work through a contact and containment strategy,”
he wrote. “Contact tracing in schools can take a couple of days and we will give an update when it has been completed.”

All year 11 and 12 students returned to school to sit the General Achievement Test on Wednesday.

Mr Cosentino advised students who attended on-site last week to remain at home while contact tracing takes place.

“They must limit movements to home-based activities and not attend public places,” he wrote.

Huge shift from the Victorian Premier with him just saying that there may come a point where “the stubbornness of this thing is entrenched, and we may need to open up because this is as good as it’s going to get”.

Sounds like we will start seeing restrictions lifted

I think that it more that he has reached the end of his tether re the often inane questions from one particular female journalist most days that she is present (no doubt acting also on the texts from her editor) whose strategy seems be to be to try and provoke a headline with often inaccurate quotes, questions and claims.

I think the thrust for some days now has been that both Metro and Regional Victoria will have some further easings announced on Sunday.

But for Metro Melbourne this Sunday will be more a Step 2 Plus rather a Step 3 Light. How much plus we get will probably depend of whether cases per day stays flattish or dips prior to the decisions being made late on Saturday (5 days more of case results).

Whereas Regional Vic will gain a Step 3 Plus.

The Victorian premier did say today hat the Roadmap will be redrawn.

Let's hope Victoria doesn't go the way of UK and Europe when restrictions were lifted.

Which is why I suspect that this Sunday's announcement for Metro Melbourne will not be overly generous.

The original modelling had the next step happening in late October. The Vic Gov probably regrets publicly flagging that we could possibly go to on 19th Oct IF triggers were achieved, or nearly achieved. Having created that expectation for some restriction relief early I suspect some carrots will be thrown, but not ones that would allow significant mixing.

Is this the "journalist" who in a previous life was a Chief of Staff of the PM? If so, I don't think she'd need prompts from her editor.

Journalist is a very strong word to describe the person in question. What a joke, a 5 minute long preamble and then just stops randomly expecting..... what exactly, a comment on her bizarre rambles? No one in the gallery, including the Victorian premier had any idea what she was on about and he had to ask several times what her actual question was. What a waste of everyones time and really took away from other much more important questions. Was highly irritating.

Friend is currently down in Melbourne for the birth of her latest grandchild. She has been taking the oldest one to the park for some fresh air. She says heaps of people not wearing masks. Talking to people at the park, they all seem angry and have had enough.

Who can blame them and thankfully anyway not wearing a mask while you walk / sit outside in a park is unlikely to be a problem. People are catching it almost exclusively indoors, at work in close proximity for an extended period. Let's hope some relief from restrictions comes soon for our VIC mates.

'News' organisation is a strong word to describe the channel the 'journalist' comes from. Give you a hint, it is the lowest rating 'news' network in Australia by a country mile.
Ah ok! I read the press today so now I know! "Journalist" is indeed a strange word to describe the individual. I could add further comments but probably lose my membership on AFF.:):D:p

Are those not wearing masks sitting around or are they exercising? The latter have never been required to wear masks.

From my experience here in Singapore, people don't care that much about the restriction of wearing a mask, whilst they are free to largely live their lives in other ways.

Mask wearing + severe restrictions is enough to force rebellions, but if the police are letting things go in parks, and focussing their attention on people wearing masks inside (eg supermarkets, public transport), that is probably a good thing. How often do you hear of a spreader event "All people who were in Flagstaff gardens playground between 5pm and 5:30pm on Friday, should isolate and get tested if they have the slightest of symptoms"??
