Oh. Thankyou. I have been told! Doesn't explain it though, does it!

Yes, indeed Pushka, you have been told! But like me, you may wish to consider if the various tellings are ex cathedra (by an actual expert) or ex nihilo (not) before you take much notice!

or an individual can simply wait until it rains when they don’t man the checkpoints.

Ummm ... I trust you are kidding? But if not, I'm sure someone can rationalise it.

They were very polite and waved to us as we went through.

Oh, good grief.

Except that people may shed virus for some weeks after having corona virus.
"Infected people's stools may contain viral fragments, and shedding can extend for several weeks beyond the person's infectious period. "

So it doesn't mean there is someone in the area that is infectious now.It is of concern that if repeated testing showing increasing amounts of viral pieces.
As there have been many more Victorians who have been infected makes it a possibility that a previously infected Victorian may have visited Townsville.
So this sewer stuff got me asking questions. Is it really possible, with all the carp 😂 that is collected, that it is seriously possible to actually FIND a case of virus shed, in a community as large as Newcastle, and no one being unwell?

Yes.

Many people who become infected have no symptoms.

Many others will only have minor symptoms.

They may have been "unwell", or indeed well with Covid 19 , but not in Newcastle. ie Hotel Quarantined and then have returned home to Newcastle when no longer contagious, but still shedding the virus.

Or being passing through.

PS> The Newcastle article has a date of 11 Aug.

A quick google would suggest that there were active cases of Covid 19 in Newcastle in the period just prior to the sewer sample result. So perhaps not that surprising then that they found shed virus.

Public health alert - New COVID-19 cases in Newcastle - Update

We drove through a checkpoint to the east of Melbourne on Thursday without being checked. They were very polite and waved to us as we went through.

Is your car registered in Melbourne, or to a regional address?

Police are using Automatic Number Plate Recognition to scan registration details at some locations. Might not have been used at your checkpoint though. It did find Eve Black though who did not laugh at her second police check, especially after police smashed her car window to get to her..

My sister in law was checked once when she was a driving car registered to a person that was in isolation and they checked to make sure that she was not the isolating person. She was pulled over due to Automatic Number Plate Recognition.

But yes I think they are relying on the massive fine to deter a lot of people.

Ipso facto, only Victorians with invalid or no border passes present a risk of community spread. It can't be someone from another state because their spread is under control. There can't possibly be community spread in QLD at the moment after 28 days of no positive tests in the community (at a rate of ~5,000 tests per day vs 16,000 in VIC and 15,000 in NSW). And given these people were heading towards the region where there was virus detected, it was probably their downstream viral load making its way into the catchment area, assuming it even runs in that direction and rate, or assumes that they were leaving the place they stated they were heading to and for some reason that was vitally important for them to conceal (perhaps they knew they'd set off the water tests and wanted to throw everyone off their scent). Case closed ladies and gentlemen.

It’s amazing how the WHO says they suspect 10% of the world has contracted the virus. Yet Queensland believes they’re immune

Regional. They were not stopping anyone. Last week in similar conditions they were stopping everyone.

I just had a tip that new case numbers to be announced Sunday morning will be in the 20's :(

Will have to wait and see how accurate they are.

This may be as good as it gets. At some point we need to accept that it’s a highly contagious virus that, fortunately, in the vast majority of cases is so mild people don’t even know they’ve got it.

Case numbers have been proven to be totally irrelevant. If only we had a management plan to just keep the infection level at a controllable level where the hospitals weren’t overrun. As we were told was the plan half a year ago.

Wouldnt be surprised really if they really are doing the amount of testing they say they are doing around the two clusters, the extended contacts testing plan and the two rapid response stations. I guess better to know than not if they are still out there....

NSW

COVID19 cases recorded in NSW in the 24 hours to 8pm last night: - 2 cases were returned overseas travellers in hotel quarantine - 3 cases were locally acquired

Two of the locally acquired cases are linked to a known case or cluster – one of these is linked to the Liverpool private clinic cluster, and the other is a social contact of a previously reported confirmed case of unknown source.

The third locally acquired case is under investigation and people who were at the following medical facility at the date and time below are considered casual contacts: - Lakemba Radiology, from noon to 2.30pm on October 1

One recently reported case has been excluded after further investigations, bringing the total number of cases in NSW to 4,088.

This is good.

SMH reports:

Melbourne mystery cases emerge from Ashburton, Ashwood and Sydenham

People living in two Melbourne postcodes are being urged to come forward and get tested if they have symptoms of COVID-19 after mystery cases emerged in suburbs in the city's southeast and northwest.

A mystery case has emerged in the postcode of 3147 which encompasses suburbs including Ashburton and Ashwood.

Another mystery case has also emerged in postcode 3037, which takes in Sydenham, Delahey and Calder Park.

These cases are worrying because the source of the infections have eluded the state's disease detectives, meaning they have been unable to link them to known outbreaks or positive cases and therefore isolate all close contacts to curb spread.

"We urge people to get tested immediately if they have symptoms," chief health officer Brett Sutton said.

NSW mystery case watch

As expected 48 hour deadline rule of Qld border restriction is not met, but some ‘improvement’

Today’s reports indicate:
- 3 in the past 7 days
- 1 in the period 8-14 days
- 0 in the period 15-28 days
- 29 older than 28 days but since Crossroads emerging.

I hope all this NSW/Vic data (maybe even NZ data) is used to create a more robust definition of hotspot because seemingly what has been proposed to date is unlikely to be workable.

And from 2 days ago.

The above has some different numbers on some dates than the table below, and so is being adjusted (reclassified one would guess).

ie
Today's from 30thSep 1, 2, 1, 1, 2, 2, 0 = 9
Oct 9th's from 30thSep 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 1, 0 = 7
