Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

No new cases in Tas yesterday, but we are waiting on the results of hundreds of tests made on the nursing home residents of the three places that the infected health care worker had worked at.

Given that they will be testing and isolating widely in that area I would be a lot more concerned about any other new cases in other as yet unknown areas.

OK, but I'm concerned more for the very vulnerable elderly, known to be 'contacted' by an infected person. Just hoping the worker wasn't infectious at the time.

Yes I fully agree with that. And yes the elderly in the 3 age care centres will be greatly at risk. Let us hope hope that no one further in those centres test positive as aged care clusters tend to have poor outcomes.

My comment was more aimed at controlling spread.

Hopefully by May we will have hardly any new local transmission anywhere in Australia.

I was a bit out of date, the 'Artania' actually sailed this afternoon. 79 Passengers and crew were infected and then treated in W.A. Unfortunately, 2 passengers and 1 crewman died.

Heard a rumour three planes loads of Aussies are on their way back from Bali in the next 24 hours.

Looks like PER may be the winner of the Bali flights. FR24 lists these flying out of DPS tomorrow...
Citilink QG542 (A320) 0015 arr PER 0410
Garuda GA728 (737) 1140 arr PER 1525
can't find a 3rd flight.

cheers skip

Bali attracts many from WA, and so having the Bali flights go there probably also makes sense from that perspective.

A worker from the Cairns hospital pathology lab has tested positive so all workers in quarantine and lab closed down for deep clean

4 new cases in North West Tassie.

Still no results for aged care homes but Premier says brace for the worst.

As for the worst. 7News reported the infected count among the crew remaining on the Ruby Princess is now over 160.

They've now tested everyone, but it will take 48hrs for final tally.

These numbers aren't included in the local tallies as none are Aus residents.

Interesting first hand report from a fellow passenger on our Voyager of the Seas cruise that arrived in Sydney on March 18th. Another example of where the criteria based approach for deeming people clear from the virus may be lacking.

Sorry for the overlapping screen shots. Second shotvfirstScreenshot_20200419_104703_com.facebook.katana.jpgScreenshot_20200419_104907.jpg

Which Health Dept? I’ve just read that NSW refused to test an unwell woman in quarantine in Sydney after travel. Then she was let out. She managed to get a test done once out and it was positive.

This is a relief (except to the single case). Only one positive result from 500 tests of staff and residents of the three nursing homes in NW Tas serviced by an infected worker.

Though it depends when she became infectious.may have passed it to staff other than the initial worker so there may be more cases in a few days.

Does anyone know how these repatriation or charter flight operate?
I believe Lion was operating both to ADL but who chooses which airline gets the job and are there any government subsidies?
Just wondering why QF or VA weren’t being used and is it because of cost or rules and regulation?
