Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Don’t know if you are aware or not but it’s currently mandatory to wear a Surgical face mask for all patient encounters in NSW Health.

Im appalled to learn this, the premier asks us to wear a mask at the supermarket because indoors is high risk, yet its not required in a hospital.

If my denstist, GP and nail technician can wear a mask for all appointments I would expect anyone treating me in hospital to do this very simple thing.

I miread you last post as "aware but it’s not currently mandatory", was readin ontablet without my glasses. Sorry. Im glad to hear masks are madatory (but July seems late to adopt this in hopsital setting would have expected it much earlier), but I would expect face shields as well since cheap and readily available.

Pre-Covid when my mum had pnemonia, in order to viist her I had to wear a dispoable gown, surgical gloves and surgical mask.

NZ and SA have proven absolute eradication can't work. Too many risk vectors unless you go totally glass house.
(You can have a goal of eradication but realistically you need to be ready for suppression and should be willing to accept visitors from states/countries with similar attitudes)

I unfortunately think both Qld and WA are going to need to learn this lesson to change their attitude.

Indeed I'm surprised that Qld didn't change the 100% crowd rules for State of Origin, given the security guard/pizza worker in the SA incident worked within 10km of Adelaide Oval. (Game 2 was 7 days ago in Adelaide)

How many people at Game 3 tonight also attended last week's game.

it does seem imprudent for Qld to continue to loosen restrictions and allow full capacity at sporting events when they have the same likelihood as SA of a case escaping hotel quarantine.

I personally think indoor events (concerts, exhibits, cinemas) should keep the 1 person per 4sqm rule (empty seats between unrelated groups) and require masks to be worn. Outdoor events should need to be 1 per 2 sqm.

I find the recommendation from JY for tonights origin to wear mask when entering and leaving the stadíum, using the bathroom or buying food, but not whilst in your seat to be crazy, people will be cheering and yelling and spreading droplets everywhere - seat seems just as dangerous as entering and leaving since there are no gaps between unrelated attendees.

The inconsistencies in what is allowed, and not allowed, is what does my head in. The Science applies in one area, and not another.

And the number of cars speeding and people along the Esplanade tonight for a last night reprieve will not be missed tomorrow.

So. Just received the advice from APS. Partners clinical practice as a Psychologist is not considered an essential service in SA and all consults must be done by Telecons. Or cancelled. Dans and other alcohol outlets are regarded as essential services. SA has gone mad.

In Qld it seems that anything related to football or celebrity gets special immunity, despte that the virus doesnt care if you like footy or have been in a movie or on tv.

Maybe they could combine their services? :D

We could set up the practice there. Much too flippant. Too serious an issue.

But actually, it is awful for those who need psychological support. And phone calls may work for some issues but no, its actually awful. 😔

Bottlos seem to have been classified as an essential service in all states in all lockdowns so far. Someone suggested earlier its because of alcoholics.

I do find it strange that Bottlos can open but takeaway/food delivery is not allowed. The bank on food delivery/takeaway is why there has been panic buying, many people eat out or get takeway multiple times a week and wouldnt have enough food on hand for 6 days of home iso.

Sorry for the laugh react but decisions like this are so tragic and stupid, all I can do is laugh

Reading the SA rules the first thing I thought of was how are people going to travel to feed animals such as horses? That appears to have been left off the list? We had a case here in Victoria where someone was fined, but that was later withdrawn and the rule changed (to allow travel to feed animals).

Probably have to pay a vet to fed them for you, since Vets are allowed to work.

As i stated earlier its illegal to walk your dog too, so if you live in an apartment without a garden, then they expect you to let your dog poop inside your home - crazy! Should be allowed to mask up and walk your dog to nearest grassed area to poop!

Having previously spent some time working in emergency management, the more I think about this SA reaction the more stunned I am at how ill-prepared the state apparatus was to clearly and effectively communicate about the lock downs.

How is it no plan was developed in the intervening months since this kicked off in April in the case of an imminent lockdown of the city and/or state bring necessary? The kind of plan that is thought out - taking in to account all the little things like people walking their dogs.

These are questions that demand answers.

What stunned me more what that the SA CHO stated on 7:30 tonight the issue with testing capacity wasnt pathology/test processing but having enough qualified staff to adminster the tests! In the event of an outbreak you know you need to stand up extra pop testing centres, and test everyone who needs to be tested.

The CHO stated they are looking to get assistance from other states to provdie more testing staff, surely in all these months they could have trained more nurses (or even medical students) to do swabs? Is performing a swab super specialised?

States need to make sure they have sufficient trained staff to ramp up testing when needed.

It just proves that this fantasy of eradication that numerous states have convinced themselves is purely a result of their good work is nothing but pure dumb luck.

The lack of preparation defies belief. As @Lynda2475 points out, surely there are plenty who could've been trained to take swabs in the intervening period, just in case.
