Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

“The NSW government is privately furious that other states have shut their borders despite Sydney bearing the brunt of returning overseas travellers, from where the northern beaches outbreak originated”
I don't question the other states rights to do what they feel is reasonable while they have zero community transmission.

But equally think they should have no right to complain if NSW decides not to take any overseas arrivals for a period - forcing the load onto other states.

Qld Health’s website is recommending that anyone from Greater Sydney who has arrived in QLD since 11 Dec (and before current restrictions) should get a test and isolate until results are in.

Looking for some insight from locals here - I’ve used the clinic locator and all of the ones in my area are saying I need a GP referral for a test. What is the best way to get a test here? I’m used to the availability of the drive through testing in Sydney (not that I’ve had to use it).

Thank you. The anger around this issue is growing and I think the government in NSW will be forced to do something.

And bold type to boot. Maybe someone should have gone to Specsavers. 😉
Bloody copy n paste from ABC covid blog, then not everything copied over. Then too much text to change font - a disaster post really, but really important for people in international quarantine in Sydney and going on to Vic

We will see tomorrow/the next few days but the NSW Premier is unlikely to give the green light without telling the PM first, and my impression is the NSW Premier won’t give the green light even if the PM is ok with it.

A few more venues added this evening- outside of Northern Beaches
Double Bay
Riverstone
Raymond Terrace

No venues outside Northern Beaches are after 17/12 I think

Totally agree with your first sentence, thats a decision which is rightly to be taken by each State in the light of its own circumstances and advice.

For the same reason I disagree with the premise of your second sentence - NSW can make its own call, but the suggestion that doing so will force other States to do anything is nonsense. NSW is not the driver of anything except its own decisions, and it has got big problems (of its own making) to deal with.

@dajop might be able to answer in respect of Sydney quarantine to Vic.

but I suspect each State will have different rules.....o_O

As far as I know Victorians in Sydney quarantine are treated the same as any others who have been in Greater Sydney. Which is unfortunate for those leaving quarantine from tomorrow on. We emerged from quarantine on Saturday and went straight back to Melbourne on as early flight as we could. We have been encouraged to self isolate and get a Covid test as soon as possible. We last received test on Day 11 and post release we were exposed to people for about 3hrs, at airports and on flight (we walked to the airport, 15 min walk and saw no one).

it’s a shame the federal government doesn’t have the imagination to work with the ACT government to send a bus and a couple of feds from Canberra to directly collect passengers (from the quarantine hotels) departing from quarantine and travelling immediately interstate. But I guess the other state just count the physical presence just being in NSW as qualifier for quarantine.

The bolded bit is rubbish.
Quarantine leaks have happened everywhere except those that have not taken OS arrivals until recently.
Note NSW has taken just over 50% of OS arrivals but 45% of cases of OS origin. So how is the problem of their making?

I suggest that as a Queenslander you should be more afraid of your government's mistake.A QLD public hospital turning away the woman from the northern beaches because she arrived just after 4.30pm but with symptoms.Just luck that that didn't turn into a cluster on the Sunshine Coast or Brisbane.

As I said earlier today I downloaded the check in Tas app 2 days after it was launched.Today was the first place to have that QR code but didn't need to use it as we had a booking.

And it was less than a week ago that the States and Territories agreed to a hot spot definition. Also that it should be used when discussing lockdowns and border restrictions. The Northern Beaches Council area meets that definition so quite correct that people from there should go into quarantine if they travel.Though seeing the Northern Beaches is in lockdown how are they getting interstate now.

But forcing those from Greater Sydney, which includes the Blue Mountains,Illawarra and Central Coast districts, is a bit over the top.And with today's announcements only NSW will be following the hot spot definition.
The CheckinCBR is the same by the sound of it - lots of places using it and really easy to use.

These were reportedly travelers from the Greater Sydney region (it's not suggested they'd been in a hotspot area) who were being asked to isolate prior to the midnight cutoff, so they had assumed that they would not need to undergo isolation. The ABC stories are for those arriving by air, but I read on the Sydney subreddit that another person was turned away at the road border today, and they'd mentioned others were as well.

Edit: Link to the post:
Yes. I just heard that they brought the emergency ruling forward and your reports are true. Although some seem to have talked their way through and after a delay got through without quarantining. What a mess up!

And there are some truly awful stories coming through on the radio right now. The rot started with the 6.25 pm flight. Many were told to spend the night in the Hotel, after queuing for hours at the airport, intending to go back to NSW and not quarantine but some, but not all, are now being told this morning they are free to exit as long as they have a negative test. Relatives could see the distress of their arriving relatives through the glass, but obviously could not get to them and nor were they told anything. (Police send such domestic flights through immigration in SA where only glass doors partition people off). Some are still quarantining because they haven't been told officially they can leave. God bless them because they want to keep SA safe. Others have apparently been given the official leave to exit.

As far as those on the road driving through with young kids and pets etc for Christmas - awful because Victoria closed them down as well so hard to get petrol and shelter as they could get in before the 4pm deadline but were turned back at Renmark well before then and were not even allowed to get petrol to go return.

Police Commissioner is on the radio at 8am.

Consistency and communication is the key to keeping people onboard with tough restrictions and this was a fail.

Listening to a rather sad? SA Police Commissioner who found out about the issue at around 9pm when friends of his were caught up in the situation. He clarified there was a mistake, and no need for quarantine if arrived by midnight. Sadly, those who were turned around and drove back to NSW they cannot return now.

This sort of thing is just unforgivable 10 months in to this absolute disaster.

I can cut them some slack. It was only just last week that the Police Commissioner opened up all borders and said he felt Australia was Community Covid free. He was releasing all police from border patrols in the country borders. Within a couple of days, it all changed again. He said that the Legislation was being prepared on the fly every time a new order was required because they cannot act until all the legal teams have clarified they are acting legally. That did not get signed by him until almost midnight last night. He was deeply apologetic this morning and said they would find out what had gone wrong. Of course it's incredibly distressing but this bloody virus doesn't care.

The Police Commissioner had to cancel his daughters wedding just a month ago with just 3 days to go when SA did its thing last month. So he does know what it has meant to people.
