Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

That was my concern last Friday with nephew being released from overseas quarantine. He was sweating on it. He made it in ok. And I’d say maybe yes they would.
do you remember to old transit rules applicable for arrivals in SA? Did they allow transits through hotspots?

Would you like to also ban every freight aircraft and ship... They have some risk.

You will quickly find 3/4 of your supermarket empty and a bunch of the population out of work.

It's all about managing risk.
And if there is an outbreak (which will happen) managing it quickly and professionally.
I’ve had enough of Sydney carrying the load and then when something happens treated as pariahs and lectured by the other states.

It was good enough for Victoria to stop taking arrivals, it’s good enough for NSW.

If NSW freight is that important then everyone will have 3/4 of their supermarkets empty, and another state can sort their own logistics chain out.

Until the NSW government can get aircrews to stay in hotel quarantine and we know how the outbreak started (including whoever got exceptions or what system failed in HQ for this outbreak) we should take no arrivals.

Queensland allows transits through Sydney airport

If I have a layover in a hotspot am I able to enter Queensland?

Many thanks to the reader who pointed out this page from the Queensland Government.

Here's the answer to the question above:

Yes. If you have had a layover in an airport located in a hotspot you will be able to enter Queensland if you did not leave the airport. You will not have to complete a Queensland Border Declaration Pass.

Police at the border may ask you for evidence that you were only in a hotspot to transfer flights, and not for any other reason.

Currently specific parts of New South Wales are COVID-19 hotspots.

Yes, I find the form-filling annoying , so usually do the manual option if available. The Tas Govt has released its 'Check in Tas' app where you open an account, filling in phone and e-mail. Then, if the venue has a Check in Tas QR code, when you scan it, it auto populates the fields. The venue never sees the details.
As I said earlier today I downloaded the check in Tas app 2 days after it was launched.Today was the first place to have that QR code but didn't need to use it as we had a booking.

And it was less than a week ago that the States and Territories agreed to a hot spot definition. Also that it should be used when discussing lockdowns and border restrictions. The Northern Beaches Council area meets that definition so quite correct that people from there should go into quarantine if they travel.Though seeing the Northern Beaches is in lockdown how are they getting interstate now.

But forcing those from Greater Sydney, which includes the Blue Mountains,Illawarra and Central Coast districts, is a bit over the top.And with today's announcements only NSW will be following the hot spot definition.

When did they officially agree to hotspot definition? National Cabinet/AHPPC?? That news went to the keeper quietly from my perspective.

Edit: NSW themselves has put some ‘precautionary’ (my term) restrictions on Greater Sydney, Illawarra, Blue Mountains and Central Coast. Other States are using that.

Also it took about 28 exposure sites outside Northern Beaches to trigger more significant border restrictions......I think it’s about 35 now, more to come probably tomorrow.

If we can all have a laugh for a moment, looking at the latest NSW Heath venues list, I really wish I’d been there to see the northern beaches resident admit they’d been to the Riverwood Woolworths. That would have hurt more than the COVID itself!

This is why contact tracers are like counsellors... they need to carefully and respectfully extract information from people having affairs, moonlighting second jobs, using adult services etc, from people already very stressed. They do a great job.

Or the St Peters trapeze school 😂

No they didn’t. Which is why we had to ensure we took direct flights from Brisbane and NT when we opened to them first. Many people who transited got caught out. But I don’t know if that is applicable right now.

Welcome.

I guess it’s fair to give a wide berth for a bit of bitterness from Sydneysiders facing a possibility of an isolated Christmas break, worse for Northern Beaches, and anyone with friends from Sydney who had planned get-together s.
Yes but don't tar us all with the same brush of having it too good too long. That's offensive. I certainly won't be getting together with family thinking im lucky im not in Sydney. Just like ill be feeling sad for my family in the UK this year. You can still be bitter and constructive. That was bitterness for the sake of it and that's not cool

Even back in September 7 of the 8 State and Territories agreed to the definition of a National hotspot. No prize for guessing the odd one out.
The Northern Beaches is the first official national hot spot having been declared by the acting CMO.

I agree, the comms from WA and QLD (again) has been a mixed bag of extreme patronisation and lecturing from other states that have not done much at all during this pandemic. I thought VIC was classy and supportive, helping with contact tracing and returning the favour.

But NSW freight is not that important relatively. VIC is actually the port and logistics hub for Australia. Which is why even during the second wave it was a national priority to keep that operating. And you saw much more ‘politeness’ towards VIC, especially from WA, TAS and SA... because VIC basically keeps those states alive!

I didn’t feel Vic was that supportive today.

Basically in their statement/media release, said words to the effect because there isn’t mandatory masks and stay at home orders, Vic is closing the border to Greater Sydney Central Coast Blue Moubtains and Illawarra.

Note it was a HQ breach when that’s not NSW Health’s position. Then felt like added on - we offer any support.

I didn’t read the statement I watched the press conference live and it wasn’t framed that way verbally but anyway read into it anyway you like, everyone is different I suppose but felt supportive to me!

Due to travel history (lots of it) I'm receiving texts from multiple States, including Victoria which I haven't been near for many months (possible trigger; transit through Mel 8 days ago?). Tassie is now casting back to the 6th of December "If you have been in NSW since..."

Sydney cut off from the nation as new alerts issued for 20 more city venues

Almost 20 new venues in Sydney have been added to an alert list from NSW Health, with people being asked to get tested for the coronavirus and to isolate.

Several venues outside the northern beaches area were included such as a Paddington nail salon, Cronulla Mall and a cafe in Darling Point, along with new venues in the area such as Manly Skiff Club and Donny’s Bar.

Shoppers at Warringah Mall and passengers on bus route 199 on certain days have also been warned to get tested and isolate until a negative result is received. There have now been a total of 68 cases associated with the Avalon cluster.

Other states and territories including Queensland, Victoria, the Northern Territory and Australian Capital Territory have today announced changes to their border controls.
