So as a general comment for the thread.....Qld /AHPPC/National Cabinet is saying because we know not much about the infectious period of the UK strain we are shutting down/locking down.........good grief. This is worse than the Paragould jump the gun.....at least Parafield was based on a lie. This time we are seemingly jumping at shadows.

In terms of arriving pax and Jetstar Woman


New requirements:

Two variants, B.1.1.7 that emerged in the UK and B.1.351 that emerged in South Africa, have been shown to spread more readily between individuals than previous SARS-CoV-2 viruses, that is, they have higher transmissibility. However, there is still much not known about these viruses, including whether they result in cases being infectious for a longer period. To date there is no evidence that either of these variants cause more severe disease or that the current vaccines would not be effective against the new variants.

From 7 January 2021, additional precautions will be put in place to manage persons with any of the more transmissible variants. These include a longer minimum period of isolation and assessment of infectiousness by experts before release from isolation. Stringent quarantine and infection control measures will be maintained to prevent the introduction of these viruses into the Australian community.


So with Jetstar Woman she would still be in quaratine under the new arrangements

Many now realise that things have changed and that this situation will be with us for quite some time. Our ancestors were so much better at handling adversity. Now, we seem to want instant gratification.

In case you haven't noticed, this issue has been ongoing for quite some time and no one is any closer to being able to question our various state governments on what their goals actually are, how reasonable they are to achieve in the medium to long term or how they intend to get us out of this mess.

"The vaccine" is not an acceptable answer, because said vaccine won't remove COVID-19 from the world.

Qld have recorded donuts for the last two days.

I think I might be missing something, is the Qld positive 2 days ago the traveller or some other positive?

State Border closures based on only one case, despite what strain it is, is not a good thing.

Jetstar Woman will have been one of the at least 4 UK variant passengers who arrived in Melbourne (plus others having arrived in NSW, WA, SA and Qld) that had Victoria pushing for new control measures for the newer more transmissible strains. Under the now adopted heightened requirements Jetstar woman would still be in quarantine. And she may or may not have flown to Oz depending on when she actually would have become positive.

So if people can secrete virus for up to 4 months post-illness (which is well known) but now anyone testing positive will not be released from quarantine...people could be stuck in a hotel for as long as they test positive, even if not infectious?

Yes that is sadly true. Though, happily for us, we live in Australia and therefore the UK rules (or any other) have no impact and little relevance.

No of course the UK rules are not relevant in Australia. However the models of containment are exactly the same.

Cluster is being closed down in a timely manner. Second ring method working well yet again.

I was just curious as to the timeline as contact tracing begins for a new cluster once a case becomes known (ie positive result).

From memory it is transport worker as first case (caught from international arrivals) who infected another who then infected BWS employee etc.

Still there. And no offence taken.

I guess it is just in Victoria that donuts with respect to CV19 has entered the lexicon. Along with Iso, Karen etc.

WA has probably been a donut free zone which is a good thing for you.
