China built a 3,000 bed hospital in 5 days, surely we could have one built in 10?

China doesnt have to worry about unions and convincing people to relocate to middle of no where to man a facility. An authoritarian regime, just orders things to happen, cares not for the working conditions or well being of its citizens.

Just on the issue of transport, I don’t understand why we can’t use buses such as State Transit/public buses not coaches with a custom Perspex barrier between the driver and passengers. The aircon could be zoned or the driver could forego it (even with an inconvenience payment.

Similarly for patient transport.

Looks like my Systems Engineering degree is coming back...

In the beginning they were. I remember back into May bumping into someone I went to highschool with in the checkout queue at Coles, who is a Sydney Busses driver. She told me she had been offered shifts driving international arrivals, but has said know could she didnt want to risk being exposed, but at the time they werent being issued with masks as part of their uniform and had to supply their own.

Whilst those public busses do have perspect screen - they are there to protect driver from attack, no so much from airborne partciles.

NSW govt should probably order some new busses specifically for this purpose which enable to driver to board via deddicated door (on driver side) and where the drivers cab is 100% sealed off (air tight) from the passenger section. Ensure the driver has a window that opens, and that the passenger section also has small windows that open to allow natural ariflow.

0 years? Yes just possible.

The new Tweed hospital that Gladys broke ground for yesterday is due to open in 2023 - so Id say about 2.5-3 years (from point it is designed and funded) for something permanent to be built.

As NSW have proved one of the biggest risks to virus escaping quarantine is during transport to HQ.

A single case proves nothing.
It's a risk point yes, but with the right practices you can manage it.
Similar risks with immigration officials, hotel staff, cleaners etc.

By that thesis the government should be giving millions to Woolworths so they can have all BWS employees wearing isolation suits.

So Emirates have been playing games?

Emirates flights into Australia are immaterial in terms of total number of Australians getting home, there is heaps of capacity in the system, the caps are the limiting factor, not seats.

So it won't really help any more people (in total) get home - but may help some individuals who already have bookings on EK to get home.

That is a bit of a leap of logic.

I suggested how govt could better fit out busses for transport, and have previously called for transport drivers and cleaners to be provided with N95 masks instead of poorly fitted surgical masks.

Id never propose tax dollars (or tax breaks) be given to Woolworths for anything at all. But Woolworths should be providing masks for their staff (and enforce the wearing of them). I dont shop at BWS or Woolworths but would also expect screens like they have at Coles to have been installed.

Id also like to see supermarkets forced to use service nsw qr codes (Coles does, but Woolworths have a private one) and hwve a covid marshall force sign in every visit. So many supermarket exposure events over last year. If cafes can do it, Woolworths can (especially as panic buying has been a cash cow for them).

Yes by booting all the Y passengers to the curb....
Very interesting move....

But not surprising.

A certain US carrier is forcing passengers to book J as well. They just don’t offer F as an option ;)

EK just making official what has been happening for ages. You need a first or business ticket to have a decent chance of getting home, Y seats have been bumped repeatedly for ages.

It might be a good sign that QLD are ignoring NSW because it might mean they may ignore the standard 28 day rule...?? (trying to be positive?). If they were planning on enforcing the 28 days they'd be repeating that every 3 seconds like they did last time....

VIC certainly are not planning on applying the 28 day rule, keep saying 'any day now' to the remainder of the hot spots.

SA are talking about a 14 day rule.

TAS have gone before 28 days before.

WA can't count that high so best to ignore ;)
That's why WA means wait a-while 😉
The UK is thinking of using the NZ model.
Interesting logistical exercise given the large number of arrivals on a daily basis. Personally can't see it happening but more scaremongering really to get people to stay at home. Same with actually starting to enforce 0.00001% of lockdown breaches too.

Vic DHHS Media Release
20 January 2021

Salient parts:

Victoria has recorded three new cases of coronavirus since yesterday, all of which are in hotel quarantine.

Of the new cases, one is linked to the Australian Open in a support staff member of a player, one is a male in his 40s in international air crew, and one a male in his 50s who is a returned international traveller.

The total number of positive coronavirus (COVID-19) cases associated with the tournament is seven with a further three cases from today (two players and a non-player) that are still under review.

One previously reported case in a person associated with the tournament has been reclassified following a review by CQV.
There are no new locally acquired cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Victoria.

This is the 14th consecutive day where Victoria has recorded no new locally acquired cases of coronavirus (COVID-19).

The number of active cases in Victoria is 34, made up of two locally acquired cases linked to the Black Rock restaurant cluster, which is a decrease of one since yesterday, and 32 cases in travellers in hotel quarantine, an increase of one since yesterday.

Victoria’s Chief Health Officer has declared that only 10 Local Government Areas (LGA) in Greater Sydney will remain in the red zone.

These are Blacktown City, Burwood, Canada Bay City, Canterbury-Bankstown, coughberland, Fairfield City, Inner West, Liverpool City, Parramatta City and Strathfield municipality.

I was reminded of the words Dan Andrews used when asked his opinion of South Australia locking out Victorians.
I don’t want to be offensive to South Australians but why would you want to go there?

Boot now on the other foot IMHO.

Now the most ridiculous point to me was that Victoria was one of the States that agreed to the Commonwealth definition of hot spots. So why now are there still 10 LGAs in Sydney that are declared hotspots when none of them meet the agreed definition.

In some respects WA is the most honest of States. They have never agreed on the hotspot definition.

He was encouraging people to holiday at home in Victoria 🙄
