Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Because it takes time to get the tests returned

But given the small numbers due for release from HQ on any given day, health can prioritise the processing of those tests to get same day result and still be released at end of 14th day.

Day 11 is quite early, so quite possible people have developed disease on day 12-14 been asymptomatic and out in the community whilst positive. A real possible cause for mystery outbreaks like Northern Beaches.

I know many people who have been tested and had results within 12 hours, they can turn around that fast in Sydney.

No doubt if they feel it is warranted they will change it e.g. testing on day 16. However is it worth making life harder for the 95% (or more) who don’t have an issue. People quarantine in whatever city they can get a flight to, then they have to fly to their home town. If they are tested on day 14 and don’t get a result until late on day 14 or early on the day they are leaving, then they are trying to make travel arrangements 5 minutes before they fly, rather than with a day or two to plan.

I just think Australia needs to stop slamming borders shut and locking down hysterically over a case here or there and starting to be a bit more rational.

I would think Northern Beaches was much more likely to have come from air crew which was a gigantic hole that has now been filled.

I just heard the Victorian health minister say on ABC radio news
that with the new case in HQ there, that they are going to start voluntary daily testing for HQ guards. Huh? Haven’t we heard here how it was already daily?

The minister said that they hope to make it mandatory, but daily testing voluntary for now.

Jeez, after what they have been through AND the HQ case last week I wouldn’t have thought it would take to now to have mandatory daily testing. But there you go.

Amazing how things aren’t as they have been indicated.
Anything the new Victorian Health Minister says should be regarded with suspicion or laughter which ever you prefer.Early on the morning when the HQ transfer of infection was first talked about Sky News had a sound bite of her saying the mutant virus was so infectious because it was much faster in spreading through the air.Within an hour that sound bite and news reporting of it mysteriously disappeared.

Are you sure you have the right Minister? :)

Sorry it was the Police minister Lisa Neville.Wonder why she was spruiking on Health issues.
If you don’t have your eyes glued to the TV, they mostly sound the same. 🤭 A spokesperson, maybe?

NSW has certainly had more than 2 total.

2 security guards were infected last year.
Then there were the 3 December ones. I believe Cleaner, Bus Driver and Nurse.
Yes, you are right.

And that furthers my observation that the non UK/SA strains got further into the community. I believe the nurse had a non UK/SA strain and only infected a colleague.

Actually can’t remember much now about the 2 security guards, but I presume non UK/SA strain.

However if a testing surge is on tests can blow out

For non custodial tests yes, but easy to prioritise tests of those due for release from HQ. Dr Chant prioritises test and genomic sequencing all the time.

Or a saliva test prior to check out would only take 15 mins.

She is Minister for Police and Emergency Services.
So has related responsibilities under the current provisions.

Not just "related responsibilities", she has sole responsibility for management of hotel quarantine, and the agency "COVID-19 Quarantine Victoria" (CQV) headed by the Corrections Commissioner reports ultimately into Police & Emergency Services.

Yes, agree.
My wording was sloppy. I meant "related to health", in reference to the question as to why she was "spruiking on health issues".
(I didn't hear or see the media conference or whatever the clip was, so can't comment on what she was specifically talking about.)
