Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

I hope this idiot can be prosecuted.

Sadly, it’s a byproduct of “normalized” testing. In my brief involvement with one of the Sydney drive-through clinics last year, I lost track of the number of times people cracked it when told to isolate until they had their test results. The general response was “I’ve got things to do/I need to get the shopping/I have work” and “well I’m not sick so why do I need to isolate”.

By pushing people to test for the hell of it, and reporting “testing numbers” like they’re football scores, the general public have actually forgotten why we’re testing in the first place.

Unfortunately, in this case, it seems the test was for all the right reasons, however the mentality was still no doubt “meh why not get a test” rather than “I’d be getter tested as I may have the coronavirus”

All I’ve heard is praise. Please tell me that’s a media beat up. 😔 Ok. It isn’t. Jail comes to mind. They have to start prosecuting flagrant breaches.

I am sure those he partied with may have known he was awaiting test results.
You assume too much

People will just stop testing.

Aside from that, unless there’s been a recent change, I know NSW Health had no authority to “direct” people to isolate until receiving a result if they just had a test.

There are multiple references to a 'transit permit' for Victoria on the web page and FAQs that LTO and I noted above. I'm damned if I can find anywhere to apply for a Victorian 'transit permit'. There is one hyperlink for 'transit permit', but that merely points to the same FAQ page its on. Can anyone assist, please?
I would suggest that you simply apply for a Victorian border entry. I apply for one every time I pass through Victoria. I duly print them out and now have a wad that I stand on to change light globes.
In justification, the one time I was actually challenged and asked for it, it wasn't anticipated and nearly every other pax was scuttling off into corners to lodge an application. I'm wondering if I hang on to all my Covid paper-work, will it provide an ephemera windfall to the grand kids?

Though the fellow was tested because he was a close contact of the Landscaper therefore he should have been isolating test or not.So the party was a definite and deliberate breach. He should be prosecuted.

Really? In SA they put into med hotels all close contacts for several outbreaks last year. In once case that was around 90 people of very diverse backgrounds. Not a murmur of discontent.

By my reading of that if you get tested on arrival and receive a negative result you are free?

Rules have changes again. Updates to follow

Effective immediately all arrivals from Queensland will now need to complete 14 days of self-quarantine.
These new Directions also apply to those people who arrived from Queensland earlier today.

Initially, those travellers were required to self-quarantine until a negative COVID-19 result was returned, however due to updated health advice a full 14-day period of self-quarantine is now required.

In addition, WA will move its risk rating for QLD from Very Low to Low

People have had enough unfortunately.... you can see it everywhere. Not condoning this idiots behaviour but contextually I’m not really surprised.

Absolutely. If you tell people “you’ll got to gaol if you don’t isolate after getting a test” the logical response will be “fine, I won’t get a test then”.

This person was an established close contact and so 'known' to authorities. That makes them a very much targeted person. As opposed to Joe Blow with a random sniffle who hasn't had any known contact with anyone positive.

Regardless, we’re disputing the same point. People are very fatigued and very over this. Positive test results are seen as massive negatives (to the point that one can cost the economy billions). If we start threatening people in regards to testing, the end result will be no tests being performed. Conversely, that also means no cases detected... but that’s a different discussion.

Thanks, yes, the option for transit appears at the second stage of the application. I've gone from no flights since March last year to having about 16 sectors, 4 other states booked for the next 6 weeks - a new steep (and variable!) learning curve ...

Why has the Qld premier requested overseas arrivals be halved? I'm confused as to how an undetected community transmission from a weeks old breach should compromise hotel quarantine places now?

It's not like a while hotels worth of rooms are now rampant with infection? It seems to be an easy way out/covertly directing blame

I think she was going to ask for it regardless. QLD are getting a heap of positives from PNG

I think the number of positive people and in hospital is becoming alarmingly high and as @jase05 has mentioned, PNG is not going get any better for quite some time.

Because our three contact tracers left are very busy right now and we had to fire Daisy the contact tracer because she stuffed up and missed the intermediary link to this bloke when they traced the original hospital outbreak.

Whoops sorry everyone love QLD x

But why does every positive case need to be in a hospital? As far as I know no other state does this. NSW has designated “hot” hotels for positive cases which are run by NSW Health and this seems to work well.

If 60 cases can overwhelm the Queensland Health system, god help them if they had a full scale outbreak.

I got the impression that it was only the unwell ones that were there and they seem to be having many positives a week whereas other states were in single numbers. We don't find out how sick people are with it and I'd suggest PNG people may be quite unwell? I don't know, just surmising. And Qld has more than any other state, confirming AP's comment that the percentage of positives amongst travellers is higher there. I think PNG has somewhat spooked them. Currently 71 active cases.

I think previously it was noted that Qld didn’t / couldn’t have hot hotels.
