Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Well I have just arrived in BNE for a few days holiday caching up with my best friend after not seeing her for 18 months. So I have just walked out of the airport, jumped on the train and am on my way to OOL to catch a flight to MEL.

This morning I have used words I did not think I knew. 🤬

Have just seen some coverage of the lockdown announcement. Anastasia's preceding statement;

Holy hell what a power play. Bumbling fool.

That is exactly the opposite of what the QLD CHO was saying a few weeks ago.....

No where near all of us need to be vaccinated in order to maintain open domestic borders and not have lockdowns anymore.

Absolute rubbish.

Quickly change them back it might help to shorten it.
Might I suggest putting it on cinderblocks...

Oh that really sucks. I am glad you at least can get back to MEL. Considering you were just in transit in BNE, then at least you should be able to come back and go about your business in Victoria without having to isolate or get tested.

Yep, completely ridiculous. And as you say, completely at odds with what her own CHO has been saying.

Just like WA, politics first, scientific evidence second (or way further down the list)

Oh how sad.

Now to bring this back on track for AFF ... I hope the FF points and status credits provide some slight consolation. And make sure you collect sufficient chocolate on the way home to see you through your required isolation period.

Monday is our regular weekly shopping day. We normally do it while mini-NM is at work after 5pm. So brought it forward today (well, Mrs NM went while I am working). She reported the local Wollies car park was full and toilet paper supplies depleting fast. She did survive and we have the essentials for a few days (Easter chocolate supplies and doggy food).

Courtesy of the ABC Live Blog, the other premiers are now spooling up their own restrictions on those in QLD

That's the Easter holidays over for tourism businesses. No job keeper to fall back on now. But I guess this will (as usual) be all the fault of the Federal government
Tasmania has an election in the offing. It's now an established political fact that going hard on borders is the correct move in this situation. The more heavy handed the better. A strong resolute leader, keeping Tasmanians safe!

Apart from transiting, I haven’t been in the greater BNE area for the last 14 days.

Dr FM is very frustrated. Having decided it was too expensive to come back to Canberra for Easter, she booked a flight to Melbourne for the 10th April to catch up with a friend. That’s now off of course. She just said to me that she managed to work in a hospital in London for a year without catching Covid. But I explained to her that Queenslanders have been sold the idea that they didn’t need to do all things she was fanatical about (sanitise, wash hands, wear a mask), because they were safe behind their borders.....

I’m on the Gold Coast now at a cafe in a very heavy tourist area. Don’t have the Queensland Gov QR code system, they’re using a generic private supplier. System is down (“gateway error”) so nobody is checking in and staff have said just don’t worry... where else but Queensland

Rant:

I am on the train from BNE to OOL. Barely 1 in 5 people are wearing masks. Never mind having a crack at the pollies, it’s this sort of “don’t give a cough” attitude that has got us where we are today!

/Rant
And public transport is one area that we have been specifically told we should wear masks. Too many people (allowed to) believe they are an exception to the rule.

And so it came to pass. “Brisbane”, Logan, Morton Bay, Ipswich and Redlands declared red zones and mandatory quarantine if you come back to Tas from those places.

To be honest, for some reason I feel more concerned about this outbreak than others, even though it’s probably going to mess with a trip to QLD I had booked. I think if it got into Tas, we are far too complacent to get it controlled quickly.

You've been on the train. I would have thought that would have been enough for put you into iso. :(

Couldn't get a flight out of BNE?

For good reason too. This one is more concerning, but AP used her golden lockdown ticket in January and will struggle to get as much traction this time.
