What kind of country do you think we live in? One where the government of the day can just "decide" what you can and cannot do without any legal framework? Slippery slope my friend, slippery slope. History is littered with examples of tyrants who came to power just as you describe... at first it was one freedom that was taken away for whatever reason, and then it was another, and then another.... until they had none. But perhaps I am mistaken? I don't recall seeing the law that says as a resident of Melbourne CBD I cannot go shopping elsewhere? Country people come into my CBD all the time to buy stuff.... I don't say "hey get out I am going to call the police! This is my shop!" I certainly don't call them bast*&#s. It is purely logical, if a shop doesn't have something you need, to go look somewhere else. Are you suggesting that people in the city should go without if shops run out? I certainly don't resent people coming into Melbourne for life-saving medical services that you cannot get in the country. I don't say to the recpetionist at the hospital "hey! that person is from the country - they don't live in the CBD like I do - this is my city!!". The door swings both ways my friend....

Well done. One of the few logical things I’ve read since this started.

Remember the “bushfire disaster”? We in the city were made out to be the worst people in the world. How dare you have your NYE fireworks! We’re suffering in the country so you must suffer as well! I remember reading an online post by a rural person who said “I hope Sydney floods!”. I don’t see these people lining up to help the city now!

This entire debacle has really shown how poor we are as a people.

Half of SA's total cases are from Cruise Ships. One positive thing - we can do tracing. And only 1 local transmission. Silver linings and all that. I hope the WA Premier remains strong.

McGowan was in the Navy pre-politics (albeit a lawyer), and he's showing determination on this matter, referring to it as a "NSW fiasco" that he will not allow to be repeated.

Accursed (large) cruise ships...

Air travel (a few hundred pax) may spread things quickly, but they are less likely to be incubators - for a few thousand pax.

Whilst I understand peoples frustration, please don't forget we are a single society - and as soon as we begin to fracture in this way "city v country" we are in trouble. And let's not forget... in normal circumstances, many if not most country towns in Victoria depend on tourism to keep their little towns alive... and mostly from the city. All those shops in high street, all the little cafes and restaurants and wineries etc etc.... they would be empty if it wasn't for the city person having a weekend getaway. Now, I have not experienced this myself, but if I was turned away at a country supermarket, when I desperately needed something, because I was "city folk", I would not forget it.

In my opinion, comments like this just add fuel to an already out of control fire.

In the City there are many many alternatives to go & find your supplies, this is not usually true in the Country. If it's not at your local store then it's a fair drive to the next one.

As this also seeding time or very close to it farmers will have extra staff they have to feed to get the job done & this is already being made a lot more difficult to do with purchasing restrictions currently in place.

There is also a severe lack of Medical Infrastructure in many Country towns. Their relative isolation is one of the main tools they currently have in the fight against COVID19.

Yes it may offend you & some others but I do know of a few small Townships in Country WA that would prefer it that they didn't have a large influx of tourists at the moment. I'm guessing the situation in Victoria would be similar but I'm sure the ones that do want tourists over the coming period will holler out loudly.

It depends, I am not sure if it is fake news or not, there are reports of people going from store to store via minibus and then hoarding it for re-sale/profiteering. That’s the problem. If it is true, that’s more than what you’re suggesting - someone coming from the city for a few supplies. Unfortunately there are rat bags everywhere and they ruin it for the majority.

My comments were based upon what my brother saw. Whether it's profiteering I don't know. He was in Hastings, a friend told me yesterday it also happened in Yea. We've just witnessed the great dunny paper debacle and how people are going crazy. I happen to think that a van load of people going to outer suburbs or country towns in mini buses to stock up on hard to get items is not fair. It's not in the spirit of community which we all need now more than ever. Do you recall the baby formula shortage? Same same. Not fair.

If everyone bought just a little, there would be enough to go around and once the supply chain smoothes out, as it will, things should get back to normal. I simply make the point that the greedy ones make things hard for the rest. When it's as blatant as orchestrated mini vans I believe the police should have some sort of power to stop it. Doesn't mean I want to go live in North Korea FFS

This is an emergency. We are in a dangerous place right now. If you don't think there will be more restrictions to come you have your head in the sand. There need to be consequences for people who flout these new guidelines and those consequences should be harsh. Why should the great majority of us who are complying with the guidelines be endangered by muppets who think rules don't apply to them.

The highest number of victims is in the local government area of Stonnington, which is one of the richest in the country. With 57 confirmed cases, it includes suburbs like Toorak and South Yarra.

Mornington Peninsula, where Toorak goes to retire, has the next number of victims at 36.

This is followed by Melbourne at 32 victims.

In Queensland the virus has shown little regard for social standing.

Data released by local hospital and health service district shows the city’s Metro North (144) and Metro South (123) have the highest numbers of infection.

The Gold Coast has 91 cases, the Sunshine Coast 56 cases, while the Darling Downs, of which Toowoomba is the largest centre, has 17 cases.

Thanks for clarification! We are looking at arriving in Australia tomorrow and moving straight to our holiday house to serve isolation. Would be much better than hotel room (and we would certainly comply, goodness, between regular day to day jobs, conference calls and the work in our garden there, we could stay there for a month in isolation ...)

I think that's designed to keep those Aussie cruise ship passengers in WA and not shipped across the country. Except any coming to SA and Qld will have to do another 14 days when they get back.
