OH,Oh.My Tassie visa application goes in tomorrow. But I do have a letter from the hospital attached saying I'm needed.
getting there is a problem.Tassie won't let me overnight at MEL-those folk from the DPRV are too unclean.
QF have cancelled all their morning flights to MEL so can't connect to the LST flight.
VA do have a flight Monday morning but only 40 minutes at MEL before the LST flight departs so plann is HCO and courier my bag down.

Apparently a QF pilot has now tested positive but no link to the ADL cluster
Oh, I saw that about the pilot but presumed it was linked. Thinking baggage or something. Not Adelaide based?

Mainland couple who visited Tasmania and have since tested positive, visited just about every Tasmanian tourist attraction, all around the state. List of venues in the govt announcement:

If they were spreading, it’s going to make the US visitors/Barossa spread look like a picnic.

First positive of a worker at one of the tourist places has been announced. This is gunna be rough.

WA closing its borders completely at 11:59pm Sunday.
All residents and visitors will be turned away at the border unless they have an exemption.
Exemptions to the border closure include freight and logistics, emergency services, workers with specialist skills and healthcare workers.
FIFO workers are not exempt so I’d expect to see a stack of Eastern state workers flock try to rush to Perth before the border closes

Exemptions would also apply for fly-in, fly-out workers and their families, but strict 14-day self isolation measures would need to be followed when they first entered the state.

I have a letter stating no restrictions at any alert level - including all borders. But I guess flying adds another dimension of issues.

I can also issue the same edict to anyone that works for my company.

Diplomatic immunity!

Ruby along with Diamond has left Princess with a dreadful legacy.
Princess Cruises has had 3 ships with a large amount of Covid-19 cases (Diamond - Yokohama, Grand - Oakland, Ruby - Sydney), one with suspected cases (Golden - Melbourne) and a number of others which have been refused permission to enter any ports or had 'security incidents' at the port when they docked.
I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere but they must be wondering about these ships. Princess has 18 ships (soon to be 20) and 9 of them are 'Grand Class' ships. All the ships involved with COVID-19 issues are from this class.

It does make me wonder if there is a common link between them and I am sure it is not lost on the cruise line.

This seems to be like most rules - hard to comprehend without detail.

Do you mean a FIFO worker can fly into WA to work, but then has to self-isolate for 14 days? Seems there would be a few "productivity" issues there :)

I heard on one of the news reports a deal has been done with the industry they will fly the workers and their families of FiFO members to WA and they will go into quarantine and then remain living in WA until the borders are reopened.

I was aware we had a high testing rate but wasn't aware quite how we compared.
Must be taken as a positive that we should be aware of a higher proportion of cases than many other countriesScreenshot_20200403-080151_Chrome.jpg

Though those numbers really don't support the more testing the better with Spain and Italy coming in in the 4th and 5th spots and being disaster areas.
Wikipedia keeps updating their lists and has a lot of the smaller country numbers.First spot is Iceland with over 57000 per million population.
It also gives the rate of positive tests per 1000 tests as well. The lower the better.

Re the topic of WA FIFO workers in general, keep in mind the taxes that the big mining companies in WA pay. We need them to keep paying those taxes even more so now :) (also their staff, for that matter).

Bare in mind too that with the countries with high hospitalisation rates that with the tests/million that there are more individuals who are being repeatedly tested and so the actual number of people tested is lower.

Indeed, you would suspect Italy and France fall into this category. Its also relevant as to when you are tested. Testing someone you already know has the virus doesn't really aid in reducing spread.
