But I think Dr Kerry Chant is coming out of this as having been the most measured, level headed CHO of any state /territory.

Never a truer statement made.

@jakeseven7 is being extremely uncharitable trying to put her in th same bucket as Sutton, Spurrier and Young who have all over reached on too many occasions and shown little comapssion for peoples mental health.

I am not sure the OP was putting them in the same bucket based on performance, more on a perception that health advice is now being weighed against wider economic, social and health issues given where we have landed with vaccinations.

There can be no argument that Dr Chant has come out on top, and should receive something in addition to NSW person of the year (2020).

So an SA teenager on the Virgin flight caught Covid from the crew. Because of border rules he was in a med hotel anyway but anyone on the flight likely will be put into a med hotel if not already. They should already be isolating at home anyway. Not helpful with Virgin crew not being vaccinated now.

But that had always been the case in NSW, even before we had vaccinations. It is why last xmas only Northern Beaches was locked down, why much of NSW was back in the office at this time last year and almost everyone from Jan this year. It is why live theatre resumed last November and why we had LGAs of conern and not extreme measures city or state wide.

Balancing covid with other health outcomes and the economy may be new in other states, but its the way it always was in NSW.

The Covid zero states would likely object to an Australian of the year nomination, but the Gladys and Kerry combo has put us in the position where we will be free to leave Aus before anywhere esle.

Whilst I do think Gladys deserves something much will rest on her current “situation”

No doubt, Gladys will get nothing. Dr Chant may, ala Shane Fitzsimmons. Doesnt change the fact Gladys was the most pragmatic Premier of covid times and NSW is better off for having had her leadership through the pandemic.

Do we know the crew member wasnt vaccinated? Id be very surprised if they weren't!

Comes back to my point of QF requiring PCR testing for outbound travel from Oz but not domestic flying? Why? And will cabin crew be required to undertake the same testing protocol, if not it seems to me to defeat the object.

I can't find any reference to their vaccination status in all the reports. In this case the crew should have been tested and not the passengers.

With QLD and WA having very few Covid cases, I am no sure everyone would agree with this conclusion.

Not sure what case numbers have to do pragmatism. Low cases numbers result of being isolationsit and a lot of luck given multiple HQ breaches in both states.

Obviously I realise the Covid zero states do not think poistively of the way NSW has managed the pandemic, not even for being the pathway for bringing thousands of their residents home.

WA is seeking a utopia that will never exist unless they shut off from the world and any state with a covid case indefintely, not sure how anyone could call being so insular pragmatic. Its certainly not viable long term, iron ore demand from China is expected to fall with the collapse of its largest construction company, toursim might become more imporant when mining is less able to prop up the state coffers.

I might be a tad biased, in fact definitely am 😜

I could pop you on the CHO holiday break with them and you could Stan away! 😂 Put you down as the tour guide. Feel free to lose a couple of them 😂

I suspect with some more distance history will not look so kindly on certain epidemiologists and CHOs who put covid health ahead of all else with scant regard for human experience. We deserve to live not just be alive.
It is interesting to speculate on whether the various health and economic outcomes you mentioned will be better in Vic and NSW vs all the other states. Perhaps it is difficult for many Vic and NSW (or Sydney) residents to understand just how normal life has been outside those states for the vast majority of time. Bit like how NSW-minus-Northern-Beaches used to see things, pre-delta. Time will tell.

On the converse, NSW and VIC are now largely recognising what the rest of the world have been preparing to live with for 18 months. The other states will have to face the same realisation eventually.

Niche cases aside. (Sorry for your difficulties, public health measures are always coarse.)
Do they have to be as coarse as some governments, both state and federal, have implemented them with wanton disregard to the rights of those impacted?

Particularly as the rules appear flexible when there’s money on the table. Niche cases like your ability to act or play football.

What this has done is make it clear to many of us that our rights can be traded away at a moments notice by governments who do not publish any evidence to back up their decision making, and then avoid any form of scrutiny in Parliament for it.

Then you'll be pleased to know that the QLD govt is saying this daily, people are getting vaccinated (blah blah slow start but they'll get there), borders will open.
Then they’ll spend the next two years running Queensland tourism ads in NSW while NSW residents carefully book overseas.

See also: Victoria.

Thats exactly what you quoted. Gaslighting much!
