Australian state border restrictions

Well someone didn’t think that through -students are allowed across the border but Teachers are not!?
School chaos expected as Queensland teachers trapped behind NSW border
So ridiculous, it’s funny as all get out.

Personal anecdote -My sister in law is a “retired” high school teacher on the Gold Coast who works relief contracts from time to time. I know she was working last week and was begged by her school to extend her contract for a few weeks. She did, because she can’t stand to see the kids disadvantaged an6 more.

The ABC is reporting that the PM is not happy with Mark McGowan for undermining the national vaccine rollout.

"It's not the country's goal and it's not the goal of the suppression plan," Mr Morrison said.

"That's been very transparent and clear to everybody who sits around the table … it's actually a commitment they've made to the Australian people and people in their own states about the pathway out."

"That pathway out is important because it's encouraging people to get vaccinated, and so to run down the plan is to actually undermine the vaccination program."

To avoid confusion about border requirements each state should
  • Issue a document that establishes the state citizenship of its residents. This document can also be used as proof of identity.
  • Establish offices in every other state where people can apply to travel to the state. Entry permits can be issued by this office for a fixed duration.
  • Establish checkpoints at every border crossing and airport to check the above documents. If someone doesn't have valid documents, they will be deported to their home state.

I'm all for this as long as we can also institute something like the India-Pakistan Gate Closing Ceremony at Albury

P

WA creates new class of risk, just for NSW.
EXTREME!!!!!!! 😂

Seriously….

Western Australia introduces 'extreme' travel risk, includes vaccine requirements for approved travellers

Three weeks after Vic declared all of NSW an Extreme Risk zone in their traffic light system. Grey light.

I don't think we are too far off this, even though I know you are making a joke :(.

You forgot to add QR code check in at everywhere you go, forever, just so the officials can trace your movements, only for "public health reasons", of course.

And maybe an incentive scheme to call CrimeStoppers and report the "anti-social" activities of friends, neighbours and family.

8 minutes ago, the victorian police chief, according to the ABC:

“I’m not comfortable, necessarily, appealing to Victorians to be dobbing people in,” he said.

“But if the house four doors down from you has got half a dozen cars out the front, or if your next door neighbour is having people over, they’re not doing the right thing by you.

“They’re not doing the right thing by anyone. They’re in fact, doing the wrong thing.”

That will be my new hobby post-lockdown. I will travel around what was formerly known as Australia witnessing all these state gate-closing and (presumably) gate-opening ceremonies.

Clive Palmer says he will challenge WA's vaccine border requirement

Queensland businessman Clive Palmer claims Western Australia's border vaccine requirements are unconstitutional, and says he will launch a High Court challenge.

Western Australia will tomorrow designate New South Wales a high-risk state.

It will require anyone entering WA from there to show proof of at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccination.

In a statement released by his United Australia Party, Mr Palmer claims that is in breach of section 117 of the constitution and discriminates against the people of New South Wales.

The former federal MP says he will start High Court proceedings within the next 14 days against Premier Mark McGowan and the WA Government.

In November last year, Mr Palmer lost a High Court challenge against Western Australia's coronavirus border closures.

I wish it was anyone but Clive doing this. I agree with the principle but not the person doing the challenge as it ends up being about Clive rather than the problem.

I hope he has a win this time, but I'm very skeptical of his chances considering how he went last time.

So with the Vic lockdown going to 2 Sept, my planned trip to Hamilton Is (or other last minute alternatives) are off. It's just adding to the doom and gloom. Double vaxxed and nowhere to go.

Have cancelled the accommodation. Still needs to cancel restaurant bookings, massage and airport parking. Wonder what's going to happen to the flight? If I cancel now, I'll get a credit, but if VA cancels first, I'll get the refund option?

For the sake of sanity I hope the High Court doesn’t even hear it. The man seems like trying to settle old debts. The man is not even in NSW so the law being complained about does not affect him.
