Australian state border restrictions

Tighter rules and restriction levels in WA

Some of it is understandable, other parts are extremely onerous. I also wonder who is going enforce having a negative test prior to departure, or if it's expected for the airline to do it.

Having case numbers against the various levels is useless, as they are usually entirely ignored anyway. The biggest issue to me is the lack of a sunset clause for any of these restrictions.

Honestly if WA put half the amount of effort into their vaccination program as they put into their ridiculous border wars and little man
posturing, they’d be at 100% double dose by now! Boy I would be an embarrassed resident of WA right now… talk about getting priorities mixed up.

Very interesting article on the failure of NSW to take the initial infection seriously.

We are all paying the price for Gladys’ mismanagement of the current outbreak

NSW’s ‘gold standard’ Covid response last year can now be chalked up to good luck, as rapidly growing cases there threaten to spiral out of control and into other states.

available in the CM and telegraph. Seems Murdoch has turned away from attacking other states and their support for NSW.

Really hoping SA will reopen to Qld soon. I just want to see mum one last time before COVID really takes hold across the country and interstate travel is cut permanently.

I hear you :(

It won’t be cut off permanently. In fact fully vaccinated people should be able to travel freely by Christmas and perhaps even earlier. There is absolutely no way state borders will be a thing by then.

By then the unvaccinated can have covid for Christmas pudding for all I care :)

Article in The Age this morning from one of the Doherty chronies stating even at 80% vaccinated across the nation and we in Phase 3, recommendation we do not open up travel between state borders if one state (i.e. NSW) has case numbers above 500 per day. My thoughts were practically every state would be around 500 cases per day each, replicating what has happened across the world with highly vaccinated countries.

What happened to treat COVID like the Flu, and concentrate of ICU and deaths as primary concern? With massive vaccinations, we'll all get COVID, but only fraction of us will get sick, less into ICU and minimal deaths. Elderly and sick even vaccinated will die from COVID, same as if they stepped of a nail, fell down the stairs, or got a bout of flu, pneumonia or infection from scrape or cut. Life ends near the end of your life.

We need to live, kids need hope for future, and be able to prepare for their lives.

Yes that was discussed but honestly it makes no sense because there will be Covid spread as other restrictions ease which is recommended by the very same report which will generate loads of cases (amongst the unvaccinated mind you) so ummmm…. Then what.

People just won’t stand for it especially when 8/10 people are vaccinated and also remember it will just be pockets of anti vaxxer nutters left by then not related to family and friend groups so everyone you care about will be vaxxed.

And then there is your point and I tend to agree, NSW and probably VIC and QLD will have that many cases by then anyway.

"Almost" everyone here avoids the reality that Covid continues to be a rapidly evolving disease.
We simply do not have enough of humanity vaccinated to limit further evolution.
Todays ambitions may be in tomorrows dustbin as we face evolving challenges.
Hope for the future is essential, but folks should also plan for the possibility of a future where simple survival is sufficient.
Otoh...I have not yet cancelled our Xmas holidays….

Please, goes without saying that WA is excluded from anything :) Although I feel for people living there (including my family!) they are stuck with what they ordered for dinner 😂
No need to “feel” for those of us living in WA. We take reducing the spread of COVID seriously, including the occasional strict measures, so that we can live a safe and unrestricted lifestyle. Life’s pretty good over here at the moment.

And yes, I do think we will be flying internationally out of Perth in the next two years.

Really happy that it is pretty good for you, it really isn’t for many that depend on the domestic (and international) movement of people for their livelihoods.

So I will continue to feel greatly for those people including my family.

If you think WA is so special that COVID is not going to be wide spread there because it is "taken seriously" then that simply highlights how far from reality some residents of WA live.

One can take it seriously, and still have a plan for the future. The WA government has no plan, and is not showing any leadership on the way forward .
People may out up with that for now, but will they for the long term?

And while I really do appreciate your comments, and I mean that sincerely, the majority of the population of Australia (majority meaning over 50%) don’t travel for work. It is very hard on those whose businesses and incomes are harshly impacted, I totally agree.

I also have family over east I would love to visit more often, but I have actually visited them twice this year. However my sister is would rather holiday in Apollo Bay than another state anyway. Some Melburnians go to the Gold Coast (for example) for holidays, but certainly not more than 50% of inhabitants. Those of us on AFF discuss travel restrictions so much because we are all invested in flying.
