No, I don’t live in alternate reality. Sooner or later Delta will escape from hotel quarantine or come from interstate either knowingly or not. That is why we have sharp lockdowns.
This is very much the crux of the matter. WA is an extreme example, but it's no different for the other States. The majority of the population are not severely impacted by travel restrictions, so it'll be a very courageous (political synonym for "stupid") premier who allows people in from a another State that has higher Covid figures.
Thing is the inevitability of COVID spread after 80% vaccinated and all borders open (bar WA). Once it gets into WA you won't get it out.
I understand, but the reality is that the sharp lockdowns will become less and less tolerated, and frankly Melbourne has spent 4 of the last 5 weeks in a lockdown that has very similar conditions to what WA has done in the past in Perth, and the case load has not reduced. The distribution of cases across the metro area has not stopped (in fact, it is getting worse). That is the new reality.
The place itself might be special in its own way, however the people that live there are exactly the same people as live in NSW, VIC, SA, TAS, QLD, ACT and NT and are subject to making the same sacrifices, the same mistakes, and ultimately will converge upon the same reality. People here say "we know how to do a proper lockdown in Melbourne". Ok, let's assume that is somehow true - spread is not being stamped out. It is being supressed at best.
Maybe once people are vaccinated and not feeling unwell they may just not get tested.
Probably, unless they have been directed to get tested because they were at an exposure site.....bit of a chicken and egg.

It will eventually leak in and spread either internationally or from NSW - That's the biggest stick the Federal Govt has against WA, to just open the international border.
Scomo can let the planes land and go through immigration, but McGowan can stop everyone he likes from physically leaving the airport and entering WA.
It will be a very full airport.
