Australian state border restrictions

In fairness, they are only doing what the population wants. I'm in Tasmania and if I went down to the local shopping centre and started asking people whether they thought we should open the Tasmanian border, there'd be very few who'd be in favour. I strongly suspect there'd be a small but significant number who'd be in favour of shutting all Tasmanian airports and laying up the Spirit(s) for the duration.

I think Tasmanians know who quite literally feeds them though (VIC) and are so reliant on tourism. Their vax rates are much higher as well. They will open up and lower border restrictions as soon as possible IMHO.

Tighter rules and restriction levels in WA

Some of it is understandable, other parts are extremely onerous. I also wonder who is going enforce having a negative test prior to departure, or if it's expected for the airline to do it.

Having case numbers against the various levels is useless, as they are usually entirely ignored anyway. The biggest issue to me is the lack of a sunset clause for any of these restrictions.

In the recent past McGowan has talked about 'permanent' changes. Maybe that is why no sunset clause?

In that case, I suggest he hire a team of constitutional experts to draft an amendment to the constitution providing a mechanism for a state to withdraw from the Commonwealth.

Despite what those in other States think, a lot of Tasmanians do not see themselves as dependent on the North Island. I appreciate that the figures indicate otherwise but people have lives and jobs here and quite resent being considered the mendicant State.
That leads naturally into suspicion of foreigners and strong support for border closures.

WA considering only allowing fully vaccinated people to travel to WA from NSW as part of new tougher border restrictions on NSW.

COVID-19 vaccinations among measures for NSW travellers set to be unveiled by WA government

WA Health Minister Roger Cook has flagged COVID-19 vaccination requirements will form part of new measures to further tighten the state's hard border with New South Wales.

Premier Mark McGowan, who has been sharply critical of the NSW government's handling of the state's coronavirus outbreak, has also flagged tougher restrictions.

WA creates new class of risk, just for NSW.

Until this change both SA & NSW are assessed as medium risk

what garbage, one where the dogs are running, the other where the donuts are roosting.

Tas admits both WA & SA with no return quarantine for either but not WA. Border restrictions & 14 day quarantine arrangements are inconsistent and inconsistent means frustrations and sacrifices. and no clear reward for being jabbed.

I thought this part of the Emperor of the Hermit Kingdom's comments in the above ABC WA article were pretty interesting:

The WA Premier said it was hard to know if the changes would increase or lower the number of people coming back from NSW.

He added there were some people WA could not stop coming in, including federal MPs, defence officials, federal officials on Commonwealth business, returning Olympians and West Australians returning from overseas who were in hotel quarantine in Sydney.

I don't know if he was being misquoted, or just taking liberties, but someone had better tell the Field Marshall Marshall of Suburban Adelaide that "double quarantining" incoming overseas travelers (who have already done their 14 days of hotel quarantine in Sydney) isn't allowed. That would imply some sort of legal or constitutional issue that affects WA but not SA. Given the reference to Federal MP's, federal officials etc

More inconsistencies.

Comments like this are hard to interpret in any way other than stoking fear and division within the community to the benefit of the government and the premier themselves.

It has been an incredibly frustrating week and comments like that from a so called "leader" are very disturbing for the future.

NSW will be moving into a 'High Risk' category. No state is in the 'Extreme' category.
