Australian state border restrictions

This is a very true statement. I have 3 instances in my family where all 3 adults (mum, dad & sis) were fully vaccinated and all 3 contracted the virus. One of them (dad) spent 6 weeks in a hospital and then another 3 weeks in self isolation

That’s unfortunate and I’m sorry for your family - but very unlucky and in the minority as vaccination prevents an overwhelming majority of people from serious illness or requiring hospitalisation so we need to keep this in perspective.

Equally I have fully vaxxed relatives in the UK who caught it and was barely noticeable just a sniffle for a couple of days. They only found out they had covid because they got a test to go to Europe for a holiday!

I think I now have an actual understanding of what they meant. Most days, my personal experience is "not so bad". Some days are awful and some days are great.
Very true point @Seat0B. I'm sort of on the same understanding as you. That being said, I have been very closely following what you (& those you dearly love) are going through and I can, hand to heart say, that it is not even minuscule-ly close to what is happening with me (or in my life).

I can only say that, fingers & toes crossed, the situation we are currently in improves ever so slightly, so that we can travel safe & do the things that we love.

My personal experience is also "not so bad", but, it could be, certainly, by a million times, BETTER!

I have always been of (& recently have arrived at) the conclusion that we can only think, say, do, pray so much, but ultimately things take their own time to change to our liking. I understand why things are being done the way they are done, not necessarily I agree with what is being done and the way it's being done.

In this climate, one can only hope, unfortunately!

Won't bore you all with another recitation of that, but I am certainly missing a lot of things I will never get back and I know it.

I can safely say that, you, and everything you are going through are always remembered.

Sorry to hear about your dad.

Unfortunately we will never know about the majority of people who were vaccinated, exposed to the virus and never infected due to the vaccine .... they will never get sick and never get tested / test negative...

The only examples we will know about is when the vaccine doesn't work (outside of clinical challenge trials which i don't think any have been done).

Probably permanently brain damaged from the rantings of the questionable SA CHO. Even the usually silent national CMO disagrees saying they have no idea what the ‘advice’ is founded on…
Prof Spurrier was asked this exact question this morning. She said it was based on actual experience last month so indisputable.

But wasn't what happened was the fellow was in sydney HQ but was then admitted to RPAH for non covid problems - a fall in a frail 81 year old..Then tested positive in SA.So may have well picked it up in the hospitaland not HQ so why penalise people in Sydney HQ.Make them take tests at days 1,3,5 and 7 after arrival in SA if you are that scared.Even isolate at home for 7 days.
However the fellow arrived back in SA on 8th July.35 days ago.no one has tested positive at the medi hotel in Sydney he was in or staff that attended him in RPAH.
So there is absolutely no excuse for continuing this ban on HQ in Sydney.

Prof Spurrier said it was never determined where he picked up Covid from so eliminating quarantine as a source would not be possible.

Whatever, SA Health advised the AOC on July 30 that athletes returning via Sydney would be required to quarantine on arrival into SA for 14 days. Other states were acceptable. AOC did nothing to reroute the SA athletes into different locations and did not advise the SA athletes until they arrived into Sydney

Tas still has ACT as low risk. Must be sleeping in today. My trip there next Monday off. Another day, another Qantas credit ....

Hmmm... 30 July is less than 2 weeks ago. Wonder why it wasn't advised earlier??? Did the AOC even bother to ask before that?

That was about the time the restriction came into force I believe.
Hmmm, so perhaps AOC didn't have enough time to re-route.

I do recall some coming back (rugby??) around 30/7. But by the same token it shouldn't have been that hard to re-route.

I don't know which way to think - just a monumental (perhaps (Olympic sized) stuff up all around

I think maybe AOC thought they could change SA Health position. Surely could have been easy to switch the 14 or so athletes onto a different flight as there have been several now.

Exactly the same deal for the Ashes tickets we bought. We bought "refundable tickets" from Ticketek, but there is this wonderful exclusion in Ticketek's T&Cs.

So to get a refund, I have to actually catch COVID, or the event has to get cancelled.

Cheers skip
Yep. Scam insurance.

My brother in law is in Howard springs right now off a repatriation flight. There are definitely Olympians there - the swim team is there. There are 4 cabins in a row abs they all “share” a balcony but you aren’t allowed to walk on any bit of the balcony other than your patch (apparently demarcated with yellow lines). And masks at all times - apparently not fun in 30c+ Darwin heat. He says despite that it is fine - chilled out atmosphere and having the fresh air each day is a godsend.

the domestic thing is hard as when hotspots get released the domestic inmates then demand instant release and it’s a headache for them.
Also divers, kayakers, rowers and some track & field athletes. Brisbane has some swimmers, Ash Moloney, Harry Garside, marathon runners, the Boomers (a lot of them are posting stories on Instagram, its very interesting!).

Given that the Olympians were on special arrangements ( so as not to upset overall arrival caps), Im not sure that a change of aircraft and hotels would have been easy. But they probably did think that the SA govt might give an exemption, but they also knew at the end of the day, that they all have had a decent go wrt international restrictions, so 2 X HQ would not be the end of the world

Most of them will be able to quarantine at home if their families are ok to also quarantine with them.

Can this be a type of test case / trial for HomeQ then ?

It is in the right state as SA had the HomeQ trial plans, right.
Yes they did but that was supposed to be for people arriving straight from international areas. Unfortunately while SA Health are in control again, there's not a whisper of that at all 😨

But the fellow arrived in WA 35 days ago. That is more than 2 14 day quarantine periods. It is not like SA has had a perfect run with HQ although accepting a lot less than NSW has done.
