Australian state border restrictions

So if you get a bum G2G pass, can you get it fixed, or do you have to do the quarantine? If the latter a good reason to avoid WA!

Cheers skip

We had some creative ways around the mess that is WA's ridiculous border stance/controls but not really willing to share openly ;)

Maybe in a few years when this nightmare is all over....

But I know of others that just did a new one....

Friend of mine is planning to fly from Tas to WA next week for a conference. He got his G2G pass ... approved, but it told him he'd have to quarantine on arrival!! That can't be right, can it (seriously)? He hasn't been anywhere 'dodgy' - just Tas (sure, ha, ha ...), where we haven't had a case for, oh, months and months and months.
If transiting through Victoria at the present you would have to Quarantine for 14 days.from the WA website.

If I transit through a ‘low risk’ jurisdiction, will I need to self-quarantine on arrival?

Yes. Currently, if you travel via a low risk jurisdiction, including through a connecting flight, you will be required to self-quarantine on arrival. Only those travelling directly from very low risk jurisdictions (who have not spent any time in the previous 14 days in low risk jurisdictions) can enter WA without self-quarantining.

If things don’t change as expected, I think they have to find another flight path (eg transit other than Melbourne/Victoria) and do another G2G otherwise they won’t be attending a conference. I personally would do a new G2G if the rules change as expected.

Your choices really were to keep moving around to the right states, or "forget" you were in certain states at various times.

Maybe WA is going to ease up on restrictions. At least the whole of QLD is not banned.
WA Health has issued advice for recently returned Queensland travellers, following a public health alert issued for parts of Brisbane.

Anyone who has arrived in WA from Queensland since 10 March and who visited any of the affected locations during the relevant times should get tested immediately for COVID-19 and quarantine.

They should also phone Queensland Health’s information line 13HEALTH (13 43 25 84).

Hopefully. The electoral threat to the WA government from COVID is now almost non-existent.

They have four years till the next election and whilst a swing away from the state government then is likely it would have to be something extremely catastrophic for the WA government to come anywhere close to losing that election. Labor will probably be in government in WA for at least the next 8 years.

It is why we rescheduled our WA trip to 18 days after the election.I have award flights booked from both Sydney and Brisbane to hedge my bets so was mortified when NSW came up with another case as well.We really do want to go vis Sydney so we can spend a week with the grandkids. Not seen them for 15 months now.

Time to consider Tas, SA and NT visits before heading to WA

I expect many states eg WA, QLD, SA, TAS, VIC to close borders to NSW now or bring in mandatory 14 day quarantining :(

Sure hope not...

At 3.01am tomorrow (AEDT), all Australian state borders will be open again for the first time in 360 days. It would be a real shame indeed if Australia's internal border-free status lasts just a day or two.

I honestly believe that people are so over it, they’re not going to bother lining up for testing anymore.

Force test the doctors contacts in Brisbane and the security guys contacts in Sydney, but outside of that, I can’t see people queuing for 5 hours at St George hospital to get a random test.

WA will absolutely close/try and force people to quarantine as they are still not prepared enough to manage small outbreaks. They just haven’t read the news yet.

McGowan is still part way through a 3 day bender to celebrate.
I did notice they had placed a 14 day isolation notice on anyone who had been to certain locations but thankfully as yet they haven’t locked out a whole state

For this reason I have abandoned all thoughts of spending a week in the Margaret River over Easter. There is a saying that landslide elections are bad news as the opposition can't keep the incumbents honest and accountable. I doubt I will be visiting WA for a very long time (being Sydney based)

Bet the Feds are so pleased with the way their Tourism funds are going to waste. No one will book interstate trips and have to deal with all the mess of cancellations, after a year of doing all the cancellations.

Thankfully, I have no family in Perth and the WA side of my work is handled by someone else so I have no real need to go there. Will be a long time before I spend a cent in WA
