Australian state border restrictions

So I took the risk a few weeks ago and booked flights from Sydney to Melbourne now borders are looking more stable. The only thing I did not count on was the weather which they say is more severe than normal and likely to hang around till next week.

Is SYD operating normally in this weather?

A new question on the SA border crossing application took us a little bit of time to work out what they were asking

"I will not have not been in Australia during the last 14 days"

And more annoyingly, it treats everyone as a visitor and not a resident of SA. For instance, reason for return to SA? there is no selection for - Resident returning.

And illegally you can’t stop the Tassie text messages coming even after you have well left the state. Lodged a formal complaint with them too. Let’s see what happens there after my WA experience.

What I meant is that the state border checks are tick box and clearly not integrated with any other states system.

I’ve even seen people rock up, completely forgetting to even get a ‘border pass’ and just do it on the spot, just carefully answering the questions 😂

Yes, that happens quite often in ADL.
I do know the SAPOL administer random checks of interstate registered vehicles but they are also allowed to complete the form on the spot if required.

MrP was asked at the airport in Adelaide last Wednesday. Melbourne was straight through. He did say there was an encounter with some privileged guy who told the Police he didn't need to wear a mask. He was in J. The Police Officer stared at him, "covid face-to-face" and said loudly "you do not have a medical exemption so you will wear a mask".

You forget the SA quick lockdown.Tassie police were able to locate walkers on remote tracks and send the choppers in to take them to quarantine. There seemed to be some coordination going on.

Is this genuine?

I've been to SA a few times in recent months. They ask for your application ID, ask a few further questions or so, ask to see ID (so make sure you have some form of photo ID with you e.g. driver's licence or passport) and then let you through.

Nope, there was no coordination. They just picked them up through their own border screening.

The states systems are not talking to each other on this. There were plans to integrate but that went out the window.

Anyone who has dealt with state based authorities can tell you how siloed they are and these state border controls are no exception.

And there was coordination with the States by SA.They notified all the other States of their intentions.I was working in Tasmania then and we were told what was going to happen before it was in the papers.

Yes, it was ridiculous. A couple of interstate walkers On an isolated Alpine track got an emergency Helicopter evacuation to a quarantine centre in the city.
Wow. What a really great use of Tasmanian taxpayer resources.

Have a look at the GST distribution figures. It was a great use of other states resources more accurately.
I thought about going there, but felt it largely irrelevant. At the end of the day, the Tasmanian government decides what to do with the funds that it gets and are only electorally answerable to the residents of Tasmania.
