Australian state border restrictions

@drron it is difficult for us to leave WA just as it is difficult to come to WA from Qld at the moment.

Another case in Bne....brother of 1st case who was asymptomatic...watch borders slam completely shut....ps no longer a party of 25, just 5 of his housemates!!!

I’d hope everything settles once 1b is completed or at least well through having second vaccs done.
Wouldn't 1b be about say 18 weeks away? 12 weeks for second shot and give another 6 weeks to get a good proportion of the 6 million done?

Depends, just one shot of AZ prevents all serious cases so depends on governments attitude.... hmmmm I think we know answer to that!

I’d say that’s the case for second vaccination. Remember their 6 million is an estimate. Apparently 800,000 in SA but we just think that’s an overestimate of numbers. They must set up mass vaccination clinics.

Yes look at the UK.29727435 have had their first dose of vaccine and only 3293517 had had their second dose as of 26/3.Yet look at deaths.

And hospitalisations.Lowest 7 day average since 28/9/20.

And although cases have plateaued in the last 4 weeks the 7 day average is still the lowest since 21/9.

Otoh… a very solid 7day average trend line.. World tested positives…..

With more than half of Israel population now received second jab, Israel opened its skies completely beginning on March 20 to allow all Israeli citizens to enter the country. No new restrictions have been implemented so far.
Hope that is what we could expect in Australia in few month time...
As others have posted, we have a problem in Australia that won't go away.

Realistically I think we have two competing strategies -
Federal Government strategy is suppression.
Most states (including NSW dragged to it screaming and kicking) is now elimination.

States have won, and won big time, with the electorally popularity elimination strategy. They have even usurped a submissive commonwealth on quarantine and immigration protocols.

The problem with opening the international borders, even with vast amounts of vaccinations, is that it is a suppression strategy, and people will die of covid once it happens. (Obviously though, no where near as many deaths as an un-vaccinated country.)

The elimination strategy is "no one left behind", opening the borders with a suppression strategy, means mitigating deaths to "as small a number a possible" (like the flu strategy), rather than stopping them completely. For the rest of the world, vaccines and then open borders means less covid in their lives: for us, it will mean letting it back into our lives.

I wouldn't want to be the federal politician who has to stand up and announce the first covid death after international borders reopen!

It gets even sillier. The guy who was said to have had the 25 person party has now been revealed not to have active Covid according to CHO Dr.Young but had viral fragments picked up on testing meaning that he was probably the link between the PA doctor and his brother. So the massive QLD outbreak is now just 1 active case.

Wonder how long it will be before WA starts to wind back it's restrictions.

My guess. They'll wait a couple of week's and then remove them 'early' based on the 'unique situation'. I'm sure the spin doctors are onto it.

The WA CHO certainly isn’t onto it. Rumours in the medical circles over there are that he’s considering resigning. Can’t blame him, the WA Gov has him completely under control.

Who on earth would take his role though....

Although there’s one who likes to make an announcement that there will be an announcement.

I've read some of his health advice, and it is clear that he has significant concerns about the impacts that all these closures and 14 day self isolation requirements are having on people. Certainly been trying to guide an easing up in things.

Pity the state premier / treasurer / dictator is a qualified medical professional... cough....

Yes the WA CHO backflipped in about Q3 last year to be more reasonable not that you’d know it from the restrictions WA keeps rolling out and that is because the CHO is only providing advice and has no power in WA.

Well yesterday's result in Brisbane means that our trip to Perth is definitely off. However we will stay another 7 days in Sydney so that we will have had 14 days here meaning we can fly to PER on 8/4.
G2G pass has been approved.Flight booked though now in Y rather than J and had to pay cash.QFF would have given us J awards for 340000 each!
So that means that the silo art trail, the South West and Perth has been cancelled.

We were already booked for Cervantes for 8/4 so that and the rest of the trip hopefully will go ahead.

Good that hopefully you can salvage some of the trip. Maybe next year you can do the rest of what you had planned to do this year (good excuse for another trip West).

A PITA - but at least those awaitin' crays are still trembling. ;)
