Australian state border restrictions

We did try to fly over on the 7th but told the full 14 days in NSW were up on the 8th.Should have come down to Sydney a couple of days earlier!

Well, at least you didn't go to SYD a couple of days later.

Indeed but it has been so much fun rearranging everything.
Your Premier might be popular with the masses but independent tourism operators certainly don't view him favourably. We did get one email saying we would get a refund but apologising for our megalomaniac preventing you from visiting us.

I’d be surprised if the Brisbane lockdown didn’t extend past the initial 3 days. Seems as though they are no where near on top of it
Yeah I agree. Who would've thought it would be a great idea to vaccinate Qld hospital staff in a hurry. I'm just watching Dr Jeanette Young squirm through a press conference; no accountability offered.

Dr Young:
Then there are a further five cases that I’ve been informed of overnight linked to that nurse or her sister.
So, they’re all linked cases, and they all attended a party together down in Byron Bay. So, we’re just working through all of those specific details. This is very recent information. So, we have those five cases linked to that nurse, so we now have seven in that cluster.

Yep Easter at home for those in bris area, couldn't possibly open up by Friday at this rate.

Lucky their hospital reserved for Qld'ers only!
Yes, luckily we only have some 65 cases in hospital from PNG and elsewhere. Cairns Base Hospital is overwhelmed. What could possibly go wrong?

If it moves south to the gold coast there will be plenty of pain for businesses, sadly. While the governments continue to make stuff up after stuff up, for no penalty. In fact, citizens reward them with record breaking election wins.

And yet, they probably voted for him...

So 5 or 7 covid positive people from QLD attended a party in Byron Bay.Pounds to peanuts there will be NSW cases and there goes our remaining WA trip.
While we're all rather depressed, cases in NSW could easily seep down to Victoria and so there goes my trip to WA as well. If it was this weekend I would be 100% confident but unfortunately still 11 days for the action to happen.

I just applied for my G2G pass though (instant approval), so I guess now would be the time for things to go pear shaped.

I wouldn’t be so sure. Business owners are far outnumbered by employees. Tourism operators are outnumbered by those not in tourism industry in a lot of places I would suspect as well.

It’s easy to think a premier is doing a great job of “keeping us safe” when you’re not the one worrying about how you’re going to pay the business’s bills.

We can only hope that the economic damage of reckless border closures finally leads to premiers waking up to the fact that they can’t keep on doing this against the Federal Health advice.

Shocking luck, timing is everything for domestic trip atm.
Airline exec's must be cursing behind closed doors.
Got WA planned for next Feb, I think that's far enough out to be safe, ha, but unless there's a vaccine to stop the spread, not just severity of covid, this may well go on & on.

And a wedding in Sydney for us after Easter. I expect if Byron Bay degrades then SA will slam NSW immediately. Would be somewhat reassuring if those attending the hens night all came from QLD.

I’m betting doors aren’t being closed for swearing. Seriously, how can anyone not be swearing right now.

Once 1b is completed we must take stock of where we are at in terms of seriousness of Covid and just learn to manage hospitalizations. We can’t keep doing this.

1b includes elderly people still living at home. So you could be 100 and living at home and still be in phase 1b. So there are a lot of people over 70 (or over 55 for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders) that would be at severe risk if they were to catch COVID still unvaccinated.

I hope the completion of 1b leads to premiers coming to their senses but I'm not convinced.

Seeing as how some of those leaders jumped the queue and got the first jabs, even though not eligible under 1a, doesn’t give me hope.

Had Pfizer deliveries not been delayed and/or blocked, then a significant portion of 1b could have been delivered much faster. With 1b virtually all being AZ now it means 3 months between doses, so slower progress even if we have locally produced vaccine stock.

The EU action is why i dont belive that all adults will be fully vaccinated by the end of the year, first quarter next year more realistic given our slower than expected start.

The federal government have been happy for the states to do their own (stupid) things with border closures. I feel that will not go on forever and they will become much more vocal when the time is right. Probably once 1B is close to done and Phase 2 underway

I think to that is fair to point out that in WA the Premier and his Health Minister have not yet been vaccinated. They have said that they will only do so when the Pfizer vaccine is flowing freely and if it is believed that an early vaccination will act as an encouragement to others.
