Australian state border restrictions

The federal government have been happy for the states to do their own (stupid) things with border closures. I feel that will not go on forever and they will become much more vocal when the time is right. Probably once 1B is close to done and Phase 2 underway

Well QLD’s incompetence in managing outbreaks has destroyed Easter for tourism up here and whoops no job keeper to fall back on anymore.... let’s see how long this lasts...

We can’t keep doing this.
I totally agree with you @Pushka, and yet we do keep doing this. And no one seems to be complaining much except people like AFF members. The interviews I see on TV and hear on radio are full of people saying "oh I understand it. it's for the best/the greater good" or something similar. I am despairing. If we can't even manage to see family in another state of Australia, when will we ever be able to see relatives overseas?

I've decided I'm still going to go to Brisbane for the weekend, unless NSW brings in restrictions before I leave. I've discussed with work and they said I can work from home if NSW bring in home isolation. At some point you've got to roll the dice.

Had Pfizer deliveries not been delayed and/or blocked, then a significant portion of 1b could have been delivered much faster. With 1b virtually all being AZ now it means 3 months between doses, so slower progress even if we have locally produced vaccine stock.

The EU action is why i dont belive that all adults will be fully vaccinated by the end of the year, first quarter next year more realistic given our slower than expected start.
The largest percentage of doses will be local very shortly so ensuring this continues (or even gets ramped up) is what will get us over the line, not availability of Pfizer.

Didnt dispute that. The point was if we had adequate access to Pfizer (or were making Pfizer locally) the total time to vaccinate everyone would be significantly quicker as its 2 doses 3 weeks apart, not 2 doses 12 weeks apart.

Moving effectively all of 1B to AZ, when initially a significant portion of 1b were to get Pfizer coupled with not receiving our full international quota of AZ (instead waiting for the local ones), means the time to complete the roll-out to 1B is now up to 66% longer than the original plan.

We will get to everyone, its just taking longer and I doubt all adults will be done by Dec. I hope its earlier but its unlikely to be done by Oct as that would mean all first doses would have had to be administered by July.

The facility capable of making Pfizer is expected to be ready in 2026. We can’t wait for that facility and have to deal with the current situation. The CSL manufacturing facility can’t make that type of vaccine and can only do one kind of COVID vaccine at a time.

good luck! Let us know what happens.

We planned a honeymoon in Cocos and Christmas, early April. We actually left Victoria to stay in WA for two weeks before the flight to Cocos and Christmas. Crazy, but at least it's all but guaranteed the honeymoon.

The only two things that could stop us now are a WA lockdown or a WA outbreak (Indian Ocean Territories make their own entry permits - Quite invasive - and they're generally more strict that WA).

That will be a great honeymoon esp. on Cocos. You will get some great photos on the beach. When we were there 4-5 years ago, they had a professional wedding photographer.
Im keen to Cocos Keeling islands (Christmas Island not so much) please post a trip report. There are no recent ones anywhere on AFF

Mainly about Xmas Island but made some reference to Cocos in this thread: Christmas Island. (AFF community report)

Yet the evidence from the UK is that after 1 dose of the AZ vaccine it has reduced hospitalisations by 95% and transmissions by 75%.
Compare that to the USA where only the mRNA vaccines have been used and a lot more have had second doses.Hospitalisations are down 80-90% and no mentions of reductions in transmission that I have found yet.

Full vaccination won’t be happening until 2022! This has already been confirmed by the CMO and I for one don’t believe this means January 2022.

Thousands more GP's and pharmacies to come on board for 2a. We are really just at the start and this will really ramp up.

Looking likely that the Brisbane lockdown won’t be extended and that NSW won’t impose restrictions.

Well the politicians will be ramping it up at least.
The politicians can ramp all they like, but behind the scenes, mostly unreported, tens of thousands of private sector general practice and pharmac_ staff are training and preparing for 2a rollout.
