Australian state border restrictions

The Advertiser - "New World Border" - "Most South Australians want state borders thrown open once vaccinations reach a critical mass, despite the thread of Covid-19 infections, new polling shows. As closed borders cause business chaos and leave families fractured, a sweeping survey of Australians' attitudes towards Covid-19 lockdowns shows overwhelming support to end interstate travel bans with 90% of SA respondents backing the move". A YouGov poll of 3,500 people.

This seems to be a theme around the country. Wherever you are in the country I guess there's probably a story about the state borders on a local paper.

I suspect there may be a business or two out there that rely on borders being opened having had some quiet chats with sections of the media about moving the narrative in that direction....

And even if you accept the exemption criteria.

Toby Greene (plays for GWS Giants) has been suspended for 3 matches so is unable to play even if his team gets to the grand final.

He left the tribunal early to get to the airport to fly to Perth with his teammates. He found out on the way to the airport that he was suspended. Still flew to WA.

The club have indicated they will not appeal the decision. Again there is no chance of him playing another game in 2021.

On what basis is that individual permitted to enter Western Australia and given any special exemptions what so ever?
Just to add, he is not isolating on his own nor playing in the final on the weekend, nor any other game in WA in 2021.

And that's not a bad thing. Just need some others, not necessarily businesses, to have those chats with the media to convince the rest of the unconverted who keeps trotting out lines such as, what about your grandpa, grandma, [insert relation here]

Yes advertisers who pay the media’s bills who don’t make money when we are in perpetual lockdown / border closures may have dented their revenue severely - enough for them to wake up and realise they will go down with the ship if they don’t start pushing a more positive narrative rather than front page news about every side effect from a vaccine jab…

Plus the fact that public opinion has actually shifted dramatically over the last few weeks as evidenced by multiple polls across multiple media outlets - that all borders should be permanently concreted open once we get to decent vaccination rates before Christmas.

Every jab in every arm suddenly transforms public opinion - who would have thought people would feel safer and therefore differently once they were vaccinated…

Its only going to build and build….

I actually suspect we are going to have massive civil disobedience issues everywhere bubbling up. You can see it…

Grandma and grandpa have been vaccinated for months now and are desperate to see their interstate (or even +5km in Sydney/Melb ) grandkids :(.

Better happen for Christmas…. Tick tick tick..

They could have played it at the MCG to no crowds for same benefit
….and avoided rewarding WA creating exactly the type of adverse health event currently deemed an unacceptable risk by people trying to bury their loved ones..
…. And in todays Age … AFL determined the game will be played ‘ in front of a crowd’ so if Perth go into lockdown they’ll arrange somewhere else…
Says it all really..
Janasatacia get ready to fly and take that mark … hope youve got some spare bedrooms at home for the HQ😂😂

TIO Park in Alice Springs? Back to UTAS in Launceston? Is there an oval on Norfolk Island? Antarctica?

It surprised me they are keeping the bye as I would think there's a strong incentive to get the season over ASAP in case there's a breach of the "boyosecurity" bubbles which is why the WAGs have been flown in to keep a lid on people scaling fences.

Well, SA people have been told not to touch that ball and beware of hot sweaty men. But if Power are in the GF and SA is still clear then Adelaide it will be.

I bet McLaughlins hair turned grey overnight when WA Macgowan declared they would shut down, even on GF day.

What about Shanghai? Almost be a home game for Port if they make GF. They thrashed St Kilda there in June 2019.

Awful case today.

Melbourne person dad was dying in Perth - they are fully vaxxed, have been isolating for a month. Compassionate travel pass denied.

Dad died - funeral. Compassionate travel pass denied

Now mother is dying. Another compassionate travel pass denied.

Almost threw up driving to work....

From today's Australian livefeed:

Annastacia Palaszczuk may keep the border with New South Wales closed even when the nation reaches its 80 percent vaccination target because of the risk to unvaccinated children. “Until I can get every child vaccinated we will stand firm and we will stand strong.”

There are no vaccines approved worldwide for children under 12.

I propose that we use Queensland's children as the Phase One Pilot cohort given the Premier wants to get every child vaccinated. Jeanette Young will no doubt be keen.

Aaah… that explains the Uber-WAGS

I think this is a lot of bluff by AP and her ample spin staff. She effectively blamed the NRL decision on the CHO (thus rewriting Westminster ministerial responsibility - but that's another whole discussion). CHO gets booted upstairs soon and I'm beginning to think that she'll pivot at that point - which will coincide with millions of non-AZ doses being available.
