Australian state border restrictions

Not rhetorical at all. With the policy positions of Dan and Gladys getting closer and closer just what purpose is served by making the border bubble even more difficult? There must be some Vic politics at play that I don’t understand.
Closing playgrounds, curfew etc. The VIC government has a history of introducing measures that are inconsistent with the measures taken by other states, but to appear to seem to do something.

None of the states have revealed the detailed health advice to back their decisions to explain why measures taken that are not taken in other states are needed. Nor have we had reports published to analyse those decisions to say what difference those measures are believed to have made and why.

The lack of transparency is part of the problem for some not obeying rules. Australians don't like rules that fail the pub test, they like to understand why rules are needed.

I guess they’re still trying to minimise cases not drive them to zero now so the border helps to stop an increasing rate in vic. Given the growth rate though the states may harmonise fairly quickly.

It's reached the stage now where I have to read articles to figure who's protecting who. Are NSW worried about infectious Victorians or is it the other way about?
The saddest thing for me is that the incompetents who've created this mess are never going to be held accountable. They'll undoubtedly be voted in with increased majorities. Personally, I harbour visions of them dangling from lamp-posts, with a bag full of emergency powers strapped to their ankles.... ahh, such dreams...!

QLD Premier has apologised for allowing the NRL players families in to the state.
… more like she’s apologised for the blowtorch applied quite rightly to this dreadful decision and she did not get away with it.
Perhaps she can make the under 12 vax (which does not exist) narrative go away too - although she’d need to be Houdini to make some of these decisions disappear ..

Except I’ve yet to see them utter a word about encouraging vaccination, thanking the Australian public for the allowances or use the platform as they have for so many other (appropriate) causes.
The efficiency is entirely self-motivated to maximise attendance eyeballs and sponsorship

It's an odd non-stance for an organisation that was been very pro-active on various social issues, to the extent of creating controversy.

The reality however is that they do not need to take a strong stance, as the various state governments will no doubt make it for them by creating rules that demand travelers from interstate be vaccinated to gain entry.

Mark McGowan has foreshadowed Victoria moving to extreme risk.

And changing rules for truck drivers entering WA from High and Extreme Risk states. Truck drivers will need either a negative test within 72 hours, or if still waiting on results of the above, take a RAT at the border entry point and only enter when test is negative.

He just said he'll open the border at some point (weeks) after 80% - I think that's actually pretty reasonable.

He has misrepresented Doherty modelling, again.

HOWEVER....

But McGowan has also said that when they get above 80% double dose and everyone has been offered a vaccine, a date will be set, and the borders will come down. Approximately 6 weeks of warning to be provided for anyone who hadn't yet been vaccinated to make their decision.

Some hope...

Reasonable? We should be open now or have a date set for state borders to reopen now, certainly to those who are fully vaccinated.

Surely they could anticipate the 80% date roughly when getting close to provide an estimate beforehand. A 6 week wait after is ridiculous. He is trying to want to have it both ways wanting to keep the PER-LHR flights and at the same time not having a reasonable plan to reopen even state borders with the rest of the country.

Well the states dont have control over vaccine supply so i guess they are hesitant to agree to a date too early.

To be honest, WA remote and indigenous is a big concern.....once its open up and anyone can travel near to those communities......a big disaster could happen.

You can't have everything.

Today is the strongest indication yet that WA is not intending to be a hermit kingdom forever. It is far more progressive and forward looking than the attitude from Queensland.

I think the RAT will be a large part of life going forward - all states are rolling it out in some form. I think Australia has been very slow to the party on that front. PCR testing is too coughbersome / expense for "life with covid"

In the UK school students, work places, truck drivers even large events have all been doing RAT for some time.

After watching him stumble through that mess, I’m now 100% they will be forced to open domestically pre-Xmas. Watch this space and mark this post.

At current trajectory and looking at their back of a sizzler restaurant napkin ‘plan’, they should open just after New Years and what miss Christmas by a few days? Not going to happen….
